Hello and Happy End-of-Summer!

As we begin our inaugural year, we are covered in prayers not only locally but from around the world! In his travels to see family in Ireland this summer, Mr. O'Rourke gifted the school a prayer card from Our Lady of Knock. We will be the recipient of the prayers of 2 Masses per day for a full year by this lovely community in Ireland. Click the photo above to learn more about Knock.

On the topic of prayer, our teachers and entire staff will participate in a retreat on Monday to kick off a full week of professional training and meetings. We will be learning more about our school's Spiritual Charter at the retreat...more information on that to come!

Look for a VERY IMPORTANT LETTER from Mr. O'Rourke on Monday with lots of good information about the first day of school...procedures, timing, etc.

August 22 is our first official day of school! We're jumping in with two feet as it will be a full day for all full-day students (K-8 and full day Pre-K) and a regular 8 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. day for our half-day preschoolers. Regular uniforms should be worn by all on the first day (not gym uniforms.) As detailed on the school website, shoes may be either school/dress shoes or conservative gym shoes with the regular uniform.

Don't forget about the fun events leading up to the first day that will help you and your student get acclimated to the new school.  We hope you can join us for one or more of these activities!

Meet The Teachers and Information Fair!  Wednesday, August 17th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at both campuses.  This is a great opportunity for parents and kids to come in to their classroom, drop off supplies, say a quick "Hello" to their teachers, and pick up some other important information in the gym/auditorium.

"Welcome to Pope Francis" Family Picnic!  On Sunday, August 21st from 1:30  p.m.- 3:30  p.m. the Parents' Club will host an all-school family picnic on the lawn at the South Campus!  All families from both campuses are encouraged to come and celebrate the opening of our new school! Click on the Family Picnic link below for lots of new and good information about the picnic.  If you'd like to help the Parents' Club with this event, contact the Parents' Club.
lach13@sbcglobal.net

Tears and Cheers - Join us after drop off on the first day of school, August 22, for a quick cup of coffee and pastry out front at each school as we both shed a tear and toast a cheer that school has begun again!

In addition to these activities, here are more important things you need to know (read more about each of these in the newsletter columns!):

Tuition - Please remember that your tuition must be current on the first day of school in order to start. In other words, each family should already have their FACTS account completely set up, and their first (or second) month's billing should have already gone through PRIOR TO the first day of school. Call Jerri Pabst at the North Campus with questions.

In addition, as a reminder,
families must be paid in full on last year's tuition at any Catholic school prior to beginning at Pope Francis Global Academy in August
It is an Archdiocesan policy to not allow a carry-over balance from another school. As well, Caritas scholarships won't kick in if your tuition from a prior year is outstanding. If you have a current balance at any other school, you need to let us know ASAP and there must be a plan in place to complete the payments before school begins. Call the office immediately if this is the case.

ASPIRE Test Results Aspire test scores from the spring will be available soon via Power Schools. Once the set-up of our Pope Francis Power Schools system is complete, we will alert all parents with instructions on how to access and interpret the results.

Parents' Club is looking for volunteers to help with the Family Picnic on August 21st , and Tears and Cheers on August 22nd.  Please contact Erin Lach at lach13@sbcglobal.net to offer your help.

Fall Sports are gearing up. If you turned in a sports interest
form you were contacted about mandatory parent meetings.  If not, you can show up to the parent meeting and register for the team.  We could still use assistant coaches or helpers for Soccer.  See the Sports Corner section for details.

8th Grade MAP Testing dates have been released by CPS for students interested in applying for Selective Enrollment CPS high schools, and other types of specialty or magnet CPS high schools. The deadline to create an account and register to take the MAP test is September 9.  Click the CPS logo for more information about this test and how it is used as part of the selection process, about registering for one of the MAP test dates, and for FAQs about the test and process.

Virtus Training - Remember that if you want to volunteer in any way with kids throughout the school year, you must take the VIRTUS training presented through the Archdiocese. St. Tars Church will be offering three upcoming dates for training. You must pre-register through the Arch website. Click the Protecting God's Children link below to sign up.  All parents/ grandparents/ adults that are interested in volunteering in ANY CAPACITY with children this year MUST BE TRAINED AND IN COMPLIANCE.  If you have already done the training, information will be available soon on updating your personal account to include Pope Francis Global Academy.

Volunteers Needed  Please click the Volunteer button to see some other opportunities to help the school and earn your volunteer hours!

Please feel free to contact the administration with questions.  Phone numbers are at the bottom of the newsletter or on our website (which continues to be updated regularly now!)

Enjoy another beautiful weekend and the gift of time with your families!

Best regards and blessings!
