6 Month Suspension of Premium Processing for all H-1B Petitions by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
To All UTHSC Business Managers:
Effective April 3, 2017, USCIS will stop accepting requests for Premium Processing of all H-1B petitions until October 3, 2017.
If you are hiring new faculty and staff who will be *changing to H-1B status* from another immigration status, we must file their H-1B petitions WITH a Premium Processing fee of $1,225 no later than March 31, 2017, (and preferably the week before that if at all possible) if they are to start before October 2017.
Current H-1B processing times at USCIS are about 8 months, so without being able to use Premium Processing, after March 31, 2017, we will not be able to onboard any new staff who needs H-1B status until sometime in October 2017.
Additionally, any current H-1B employees with a pending extension of their H-1B status will not be able to travel outside the U.S. until their H-1B approval notice is received. Such employees can “upgrade” to Premium Processing before April 3, 2017, if desired.
If you have any questions, please contact Connie Childs in International Affairs at 448-8484. Also for future reference,International Affairs has moved to 910 Madison Avenue, Suite 105 (One Stop Shop).
