PolicyManager is Now Live!
What is PolicyManager?
Currently, the campus policies and procedures are in various formats and in multiple locations across the HSC website.  In an effort to centralize and organize our policies so that are more readily and easily accessible, the HSC has implemented PolicyManager.  You can go to one place and find all the policies and procedures for the following:
  • Academic, Faculty, & Student Affairs
  • Administration
  • Finance
  • HIPAA Privacy
  • Human Resources
  • ITS
  • Research
  • UT System Policies
 How do I access PolicyManager?
PolicyManager is located at the following link:  UTHSC PolicyManager   (  This link can be accessed through any device that has access to the web.  This includes your IPhone or IPad.  All you need to do is go to the web link and save the link in your favorites.
How do I use PolicyManager?
You do not have to log into PolicyManager to view the policies and procedures.  Anyone can view them – faculty, staff, students and the general public.
  • Look above in the middle section under "General Access for ANONYMOUS USERS."
  • You can search for a particular policy or procedure using the "Search" function or you can Click on "Policies and Procedures" to get a full list.

UTHSC Employees in F-1 Status with OPT Work Permit

If you have F-1 OPT employees in your department, please note:
When F-1 students graduate, they can apply to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for a work permit for 12 months of OPT (Optional Practical Training).  This allows them to work in their field of study anywhere in the U.S. and does not require UTHSC visa sponsorship.
If such students have obtained a degree that is listed on the USCIS STEM degree list:, they may apply to USCIS for a STEM OPT extension of 24 months.
As part of the application process for STEM OPT, the student and his/her employer must complete a “training plan” on Form I-983.  The completed I-983 is then sent by the student to his/her international student advisor for further processing.
**UTHSC F-1 employees applying for STEM OPT should complete the attached form and obtain signatures as follows:**
  • Page 2: signed by International Affairs (Peggy Mahoney or Connie Childs)
  • Page 4: signed by the PI
[The form is fillable and the “hints” we have added do not print.]
If you would like to learn (a lot!) more about STEM OPT, see: or contact International Affairs at 448-8484!
