Fred Sjoberg Workshops - October 26, 27 & 28 - REGISTER NOW
Fred Sjöberg is recognized worldwide as a leading conductor of youth choirs, and has conducted such prominent youth choirs as the World Youth Choir, the World Chamber Choir, and European Youth Choir. These workshops for high school choirs present an opportunity for choristers and their teachers to learn first hand from Mr. Sjöberg as he explores the essentials of excellent choral singing. Fred says, "We will do healthy and fun vocal exercises, sing some repertoire (both easy and some a bit more difficult), and do some vocal experiments."
All musical styles will be incorporated into the workshop. Central to Mr. Sjöberg's work is the premise that everyone should enjoy singing and making music together with others. The overarching workshop goal is to further develop the instrument that we're a part of -- CHOIR!

Note that multiple choirs will take part in each repertoire. Workshop repertoire need not be prepared in advance, although if conductors have time to sing through them in a rehearsal prior to the workshop it would be appreciated. Scores will be provided upon submission of the registration form.
This workshop is for everyone who loves to sing, is new-ish to the world of choir, and is currently a member of a non-auditioned group. Fred will address the fundamentals of singing, including using the whole body, managing the breath and vocal support mechanism, strategies to focus the tone, approaches to warming up the voice. Fred says, "The main theme in all my work with choirs is to enjoy singing and have fun in making music together with others. Music brings people together in the best way, beginners and pros, young and old.
In this workshop you will explore your voice, what it can do, and what you can achieve. We will do healthy and fun vocal exercises, sing some music in a variety of styles, and do some vocal experiments." All with the overarching goal of developing the instrument of which we're a part -- CHOIR!

Non-auditioned choirs from in and around Saskatoon and Regina have been invited to this workshop, but you're also welcome to come as an individual.

O Canada
Begin your Canada 150 celebrations early with this all-Canadian session of choral music by 20 of our country’s outstanding composers and arrangers. We’ll sing, listen to recordings, and watch short videos of composers providing insight about their music. A variety of voicings – unison to SATB – and genres – everything from motets to cowboy songs – have been included. A limited number of music packets will be provided for both the published and unpublished pieces.

Rehearsal Lab
See how they do it, and share how you do it. Facilitator Brendan Lord and conductor Shaun Bzdel join forces in an open rehearsal setting with St. Joseph High School Choir. Throughout the session, Brendan and Shaun will “pause” the rehearsal to explain their approaches, and to invite ideas from attendees. The goal is that, through observation and discussion, everyone in attendance will be able to expand their vocabulary of rehearsal and choral techniques.
