Holy Week and Easter are rapidly approaching, which for me is very exciting because Holy Week and Easter are truly the high point of the Christian year.

Of course, Christmas is wonderful. It’s wonderful to celebrate the birth of Christ. But in Holy Week and Easter we celebrate nothing less than the fulfilment of the very purpose for which Christ came. It was through the events we remember in Holy Week and Easter that Jesus defeated sin and death, paved the way for the fulfilment of God’s kingdom, and secured for us the promise of eternal life.

His entry into Jerusalem, remembered on Palm and Passion Sunday; the ‘Last Supper’ when he washed the disciples’ feet and gave us the signs of bread and wine, remembered on Maundy Thursday; his arrest, trial, crucifixion, and death, remembered on Good Friday; and Jesus’ rising again, celebrated on Easter Sunday – these are the events on which our faith and hope in Christ ultimately rest.

So, while the beginning of Holy Week is still a week away, and Easter still two weeks away, I hope that you’re already looking forward to this really special time of year, and that you will be able to join us, even if it is only in spirit, as we mark and celebrate each of the events of Holy Week and Easter through which Jesus achieved our salvation.
