And on the seventh day...

I am the luckiest Pilates teacher because I have students who are consistent and courageous in their workouts. I am sometimes blown away by the amount of activity some of you do weekly if you consider yoga, Pilates, sports and other athletic endeavors!

For your muscles to recover from these activities, it's extremely important to have rest days. But, that does not mean you spend an entire day on your couch ignoring your body. Bodies are MEANT to move, but they aren't meant to be pushed to their limits every single day.

On rest days, give strength and cardio training a break, but still CONNECT your mind to your body with movement. It's important to rest with an awareness of your body and a sense of gratitude toward it. Your body will thank you mentally acknowledging the need for a break, while staying connected.

Some rest day ideas for you:
1. Recovery Pilates/Yoga stretches (see video below).
2. An active meditation that includes a body scan: Try this one (only 5 minutes!). 
3. Yin or Restorative Yoga.
4. A walk with no agenda. 
5. A rehabilitative recovery session on the reformer (contact me for availability). 
6. Roll it out on the foam roller.

Tuesdays at The Yoga Room, Astoria:
615p-Pilates Foundations (great for beginners!)

Sundays at The Yoga Room, Astoria:
1115am: Pilates Foundations*
3pm-Hot Bodies, Hot Pilates
