Sometimes you think you know someone - but then they surprise you (in a good way!) and you realise that there was more to who they are than you had previously experienced. I've felt that way as I've been taking a good hard look at Jesus. We can have a tendency to make Him one-dimensional; to focus on the aspects of His ministry, the names given to Him that resonate with us personally - but there is so much more to understand and experience!
This week we've honed in on His love, His compassion, His understanding, His obedience and humility, His sacrifice - we have seen our Saviour. But today, today we see our King! And He is risen and victorious!
I was dead and behold I am alive! What hope these words bring us because His death brings us life and allows us to live with the truth that He makes all things new.
Just one glimpse of our risen Saviour has the power to transform our lives. Encountering the risen Christ changed James - the unbelieving brother of Jesus - into the leader of the Church of Jerusalem; it transformed Saul - persecutor of believers into Paul, the man who wrote much of our New Testament; it breathed faith into the doubting Thomas. When we learn to lift our eyes off our circumstances and fix them on Jesus - in all His power and all His glory, then we can be changed too!
Believing is not the absence of trouble in our lives but it is inviting the presence of the One who overcomes to walk beside us; it is being able to live with unshakeable faith and peace because we know the end of the story! We are on the winning side!
The old hymn sums it up - Because He lives, I can face tomorrow; Because He lives, all fear is gone; Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living, Just because He lives!
We see Jesus - risen and victorious!
Live today with purpose, Aimee
Jesus today I celebrate that you are alive! I celebrate your victory over sin and death and thank You for the gift of new life. I declare with the angels that Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive honour and glory and praise! I lift you above every circumstance that I face and I choose to see my Risen Saviour and King. Amen.
