Green Paper Update
As I’m sure you have heard the last few months my time has been occupied with writing our students’ response to the Government’s consultation document. You can now check it out in all its glory online. The Government received over 600 responses from various think tanks, institutions, businesses and Students’ Unions. Now we will wait for the technical consultation period and for a white paper to be released. Following that there will be another round of consultations. It is important we get our voice heard on this matter. Regardless of opinion on the matter, this paper will cause huge changes in the way institutions are run, students are treated and how Higher Education is dealt with in this country. Stay posted for more!

Assessment and Feedback Day
On Wednesday 20th January, I alongside the Centre for Quality Support and Development (CQSD) at the University hosted a day of Assessment and Feedback. About a hundred academics from all across campus met up to discuss what good assessment and feedback is and what small changes academics can make to improve this for students across the institution. The concept of Feed-Forward was discussed, ideas about examination feedback feasibility and how simple changes to assessment can benefit vast numbers of students! Later this week I will be publishing a more in-depth article about what happened so keep your eyes and ears open for that!

Course Rep Hero - Ben Pickering, BSc Meteorology
As Academic Reps we don’t think you get anywhere near enough praise. This new segment is to celebrate those Course and Faculty Reps doing amazing work and getting great wins! Do you know a worthy Course Rep Hero? Let us know! Nominate yourself or another Academic Rep!
Our first Course Rep Hero is Ben Pickering, BSc Meteorology part 4. He successfully lobbied an influential member of staff to convince the Head of Finance in the Meteorology department to provide funding for a new Green Screen. This means Meteorology students will be able to do weather reports, train to use the equipment and gain valuable experience. Great work! Swing by RUSU soon to collect your prize, an Amazon gift voucher worth £10!
