October is Manufacturing Month in Sumter County
The Sumter County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed October as Manufacturing Month. Manufacturing is one of Sumter County’s targeted industries for economic development. Sumter County is home to approximately 300 manufacturing firms, according to the Florida Small Business Center at UCF-Sumter County. These businesses support 1,339 jobs with an average annual wage of $76,032, up $7,000 from last year, according to EMSI Analytics.   • The average manufacturing wage in Sumter County is 28% higher than the average private sector wage according to EMSI Analytics.
  • Manufacturing jobs in Sumter County grew by 34% between 2016-2021 according to EMSI Analytics.
Local Business Secures $19M in Government Contracts
The Small Business Development Center at UCF-Sumter County (SBDC) helped a local business secure $19 million in government contracts this year. The SBDC routinely assists local businesses with securing government contracts at the state, federal, and local levels.  The SBDC provides businesses with a wide variety of counseling and their services are available at no cost to the businesses.

Florida Ranks Among the Best States for Business
Area Development Magazine states that factors like the overall cost of doing business, business incentive programs, competitive labor market, workforce development programs, logistics and infrastructure, available real estate, and cooperative and responsive local government rate the highest among site selectors. Florida ranks among the top 10 in many of these categories and Sumter County has a proven track record of prioritizing these factors as well.

New Letter Grade System Announced for Florida’s Workforce Development Boards
The new grading system is designed to further the transparency and accountability goals of Florida's Re-imagining Education and Career Help Act (REACH). Stephanie Smith, Chair of the CareerSource Florida Board, says the goal of REACH is to "ensure a seamless, integrated experience and access for all Floridians to programs, opportunities, and training that lead to economic prosperity and self-sufficiency." CareerSource Central Florida is the regional workforce board that covers Sumter County, they have assistance available to both employers and jobseekers.  To see what is available, click on the link below.
