SECO Energy Foundation Announces Scholarship Program for Energy Industry Students  
the SECO Energy Foundation proposes $36,000 in scholarships for students interested in pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related careers in the energy industry. The 2023 SECO's Scholarship Program may award up to 12 recipients to receive a $3,000 scholarship each, subject to the Foundation Board of Directors' approval. The scholarship program is open to high school seniors graduating in May/June 2023. Scholarship winners may also be eligible for ongoing financial support and/or internship opportunities from SECO Energy throughout their studies. For more information click below.

  • The 2023-2024 State of Florida budget calls for $624 million to support workforce education programs, which tops a record $579 million investment in the current fiscal year, according to the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). 
  • In a press release by the FLDOE, in 2021-2022, there were 93,072 rapid credentials, and nearly 250,000 rapid credentials have been awarded since 2019. 
Florida Tech Triangle
Sumter County schools help power the Florida High Tech Corridor, anchored by a trio of Florida research universities. The three universities powering this trio are UF Gainesville, UCF in Orlando, and USF in Tampa. The corridor now has 17 universities and state colleges covering 23 counties, driving high-tech economic development, according to The Villages Daily Sun. The Florida High Tech Corridor helps make a broad array of inventions, from smartphone sensors that keep our soldiers safe, to less expensive displays for large-screen TVs, phones, and cars.

Governor Ron DeSantis Recognizes February as Career and Technical Education Month
According to the Florida Department of Education, Florida has nearly 800,000 K-12 career and technical education (CTE) students, the highest in state history, more than 380,000 postsecondary CTE students, and over 17,000 registered apprentices. CTE Month is observed to recognize the accomplishments of students, educators, and partners that contribute to the success of CTE programs.
