Happy Friday! I’m excited to introduce Michele Gurtler to you. She will be filling in for Mr. Z while he is the interim Superintendent. She has been in the AOS for 23 years as the High School Guidance Counselor. Her starting date is Tuesday, January 18th. If you see her, feel free to introduce yourself to her!
We are making a few changes to our end of the day dismissal. This change will begin on Tuesday, January 18th. Students will now be dismissed in the following order:
Larry’s bus
Lisa’s bus
Pick up
Walkers/Harbor House
Sports kids will be dismissed according to their schedule for that day.
There will be some flexibility with this schedule. If a bus is going to be late, the pick up kids will be dismissed so it doesn't hold everyone up. Please do not park in the “No Parking” spots in front the flag or in front of the basketball court. There will be cones present to remind you.
Winter is definitely here in full force. Please remember to send your child(ren) to school with the appropriate clothing for outdoor recess. If it’s warmer than 10 degrees (with the windchill), we will be going out to get some much needed fresh air!
It’s hard to believe that we are almost half way through the year, but it’s true. The final day to Semester 1 is January 20th. There will be no school on Friday, January 21st and Monday, January 24th to allow teachers time to complete report cards and prepare for the second semester. Report cards will go out Friday, Jan 28th (If all goes well in the technology world!).
Because there is no school on Monday, January 17th in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr, we will do pool testing on Wednesday. Our protocol for students/staff testing positive for COVID has also changed. All students, teachers, or staff who test positive for COVID-19 will continue to notify their school nurse as soon as possible. Individuals with COVID-19 will isolate for at least 5 days. If they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), and have a negative antigen test administered by the school nurse, they may return to school and wear a properly fitting mask. If they are still positive, they will need quarantine for another 5 days before returning to school.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please call the office, and Renee or Dencie will be sure to pass along your call to the appropriate person. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Kelli Clark
Hi Families,
Starting January 3rd, pool testing will be changed to Mondays instead of Tuesdays. The deadline for required immunizations is December 30th. If your child has not had the required immunizations for public schools then they cannot return to school until a doctors note is provided to me with a plan in place to receive the necessary vaccine(s).
Cold weather is here and it’s important to dress appropriately for outside recess. We will be having outside recess, unless the weather is less than 10 degrees, with windchill. Dressing appropriately includes a jacket, pants, hats, mittens and anything else you want to pack to keep your child warm.
As always, keep your child home if they are experiencing cold symptoms and have them tested if appropriate. Anyone who is COVID positive the guidance has changed to a 5 day quarantine. Please let the school nurse know if someone has tested positive using a home test.
Happy New Year!
-Brittany, School Nurse
Upcoming No School Days in January
Monday, January 17 - Martin Luther King, Jr Day
Friday, January 21 - Professional Day
Monday, January 24 - Professional Day
Cold Weather Cut Off
When the outdoor temperature is ten degrees Fahrenheit or higher and the wind chill factor is ten degrees Fahrenheit or higher, children will play outdoors with adult supervision for an appropriate length of time. The school nurse( this could be different by school) will send out an email to all staff letting them know if they need to remain inside, as reported by ... weather.com… (for your town - Not sure everyone needs to use the same weather site) Parents are aware that they need to send their children adequately clothed during cold weather which includes jackets, pants, hats, mittens/gloves, and boots.
It would be very helpful if you sent an extra set of mittens and an extra hat for your child to store in your child’s locker just in case. Because of COVID, we do not have extra hats and mittens to give out to students this year.
