The posters hanging up through town are a representative sample of different middle school grades and different activities. Hancock County Food Box Distributions Planned for April 20

The Farmers to Families Food Box Program, a component of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s COVID-19 emergency food assistance program, will hold food box distribution events in Hancock County on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at the Acadia Gateway Center on Rte. 3 in Trenton and at the Bucksport United Methodist Church (3 River Road). Community members may pick up free food boxes on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 10 a.m. in Trenton and 2 p.m. in Bucksport, until all boxes have been distributed. No paperwork or registration required.

Each box contains one gallon of milk, meat, shredded cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, potatoes, and other produce. Those who are able may pick up food boxes for homebound neighbors and family members; per-vehicle box limits will be set according to the number of boxes available at distribution.

“We’ve helped distribute over 230,000 pounds of food in Washington County since summer 2020 through the Food Box Program, in partnership with Maine Farmers’ Exchange and Native Maine Produce & Specialty Foods,” said Healthy Acadia Food Programs Manager Rachel Emus. “We are so thrilled to finally be able to offer this in Hancock County.”

For more information, contact Rachel Emus, Healthy Acadia Hancock County Food Programs Manager, at (207) 667-7171 or Rachel@HealthyAcadia.org. Follow Healthy Acadia on Facebook (@healthyacadia) for updates.

  Recess/Breakfast/Lunch Procedures

Beginning September 1, 2021 no child will be permitted to attend school without evidence of immunization or proof of immunity against disease. Students enrolled in grades Pre-K through 12 are to be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, polio and varicella. Additionally, all students enrolled in grades 7-12 must be immunized against meningococcal disease.

Since it takes time to complete immunization series, this is the time to call your child’s primary care provider to set up a schedule to start receiving vaccines if your child is going to be able to attend the first day of school this fall.  I can let you know what immunizations they are missing for school compliance. Please call, text, or email me with questions.

Thank you for your attention to this new law and we hope to see your child in school next fall.

Sincerely,

Brittany RN, School Nurse

Parents -- Self Care is important! Remember the announcements on planes to put your own oxygen mask on before helping others? The stresses of the pandemic coupled with the stresses of parenting can make it so you forget to take care of YOU. Check out these Self Care Suggestions for Parents. You may want to review the list and select one or two to incorporate into your daily routines. You could add a self care practice to things you already do (e.g., with your cup of coffee). If you talk with someone else and share what you plan to do, you will be more likely to do it. Then you can check in about how it is going, review the list of suggestions, get and give encouragement, etc.
