Our Mission

Joan’s Reach provides information and support for families continuing a pregnancy with a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis. With funds raised we provide packages to families and healthcare providers, so that parents who receive the devastating news that their baby will likely die before or shortly after birth will receive adequate support at the time of diagnosis and beyond.

Joan's Reach continues to distribute materials to local healthcare providers to educate, raise awareness and provide support to families. Several providers have requested more Joan's Reach bags full of resources to give to their patients who receive a life-limiting diagnosis for their unborn baby.

The 4th Annual Joan's Reach Chili Cook Off on October 10, 2015 was a huge success, with over 100 attendees and donors, 11 different chili’s, and countless other tasty dishes and desserts!

Awareness and Education

Joan's Reach had the privilege of participating in two speaking engagements this year.
  • Rutgers School of Social Work interdisciplinary course entitled Perinatal Death, Dying, and Bereavement with a focus on preparing for birth and death when fetal prognosis is poor. Participants included students and faculty from Rutgers genetics, nursing, social work, and medical schools.
  • Resolve Through Sharing Bereavement Training at Capitol Health Medical Center in Hopewell sponsored by the Central Jersey Family Health Consortium. Attendees included 50 nurses, social workers, and participants from hospitals across central NJ.
Through the generosity of our donors we were able to provide handouts and reference materials to attendees, healthcare providers and students at both of these important courses. As well as share a parent's perspective of the benefits of perinatal hospice care, to improve care for families experiencing a difficult prenatal diagnosis and the death of their baby.
