What You Need to Know about HR3 and HB19

You may or may not be familiar with the H.R. 3 or the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act, but what you need to know is how it may affect you. Right now, the H.R. 3 has no affect on your personal life because it is still in the process of being passed and would eventually work to establish fair price negotiations for prescription drugs coming into the United States and sold to consumers. If passed, this would allow Medicare to negotiate drug costs with pharmaceutical companies for 250 drugs per year. Medicare Part D beneficiaries would save hundreds of dollars in out-of-pocket costs. This process is years in the making, so the state of Florida has other plans in mind so that Floridians can benefit from lower drug costs in a shorter timeframe.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (FL) took this idea into his own hands and created a new bill, H.B. 19, which is a state-backed program to import reduced-cost drugs from Canada and countries internationally. The idea is not to negotiate prices but to find alternative drugs to those popular and overpriced drugs that are frequently used. Those similar drugs are much lower in cost, which would save consumers, such as yourself, hundreds of dollars in costs.

As time is ticking and prescription costs aren’t decreasing within the new few months, there are other ways to obtain prescription drugs if you are in a financial situation where you are unable to afford the cost of your prescription medications. A company called SavOn Global Meds is based in Florida and sells branded and generic prescription medication sourced from overseas at a discounted price. The company finds the lowest drug prices among pharmacies made in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Turkey, and the UK. The same patented brands that are sold in the U.S. are sourced from these places and sold at a fraction of the retail cost here and often below insurance co-pays. Medications are delivered to the homes of customers, which reduces costs all around. The company has been in service for the past eight years and has helped hundreds of seniors around the United States with prescription costs. It is run by seniors who sought the need for people like themselves to have access to affordable drug prescriptions. You can learn more about SavOn Global Meds and their mission to help seniors here.

While these bills have not yet passed, we are so glad that there are alternatives available to obtain your medication from, like SavOn Global Meds, one of OurSeniors Approved Vendors.
