Oxy Web Tips

We've updated our web calendar!

With a few simple steps you can help users more easily find your events based on their interests.

Our online Oxy calendar has a number of special features that can help you promote your event online and on your department homepage. We've also made a few recent updates that will hopefully help users find events that interest them more easily. See below for more information about how you can take advantage of these tools when posting events on Oxy.edu!

Specialty Calendars

Did you know that when you add an event to the online Oxy calendar you can also add it to a specialty calendar? This allows users to filter all online events by category to find the events in which they are most interested. A user who wants to see a musical performance can easily view all events tagged to the Arts specialty calendar, or someone interested in sports can sort by athletic events. We recently added a variety of new categories to the list of available specialty calendars, so simply select the one that most closely matches your event. All events will continue to display on the main Oxy.edu calendar no matter what specialty calendar you select.

Note that you can add an event to only one specialty calendar at a time, so choose the one that most that is most applicable. If you have a suggestion for a category that you think should be added to the list, please email us at helpdesk.

Optimizing Images for Events

Many departments create posters or flyers to advertise events around campus. Although it might seem quick and easy to simply upload your flyer as the main image for your event on Oxy.edu, these posters are not ideal images for the web for a number of reasons. When sized down for web the text is often difficult to read, and the content is also not crawlable by text readers or search engines (which means the content of the poster won't show up in Google results!). If you do upload your event poster online, we recommend typing out the full text on the poster as the body content of your event as well. As always, don't forget to add alt text to all of your images!

Special Note: Fall Web Office Hours
