In response to the recent earthquakes and aftershocks, the Ministry of Health expanded the reach of the 24/7 Earthquake Support Line 0800 777 846 run by Homecare Medical as part of the National Telehealth Service.
The support line, which offers social and psychological support, is open to anyone in New Zealand
anxious or concerned about how the situation is affecting them or their whānau. They can call for emotional support, advice or just for someone to talk to.
There is also a special webpage www.health.govt.nz/earthquakesupportline
with information and resources to help people get through.
The support line is staffed with qualified mental health experts who have direct access to Healthline nurses and other 24/7 national telehealth staff. Psychiatrist Dr David Codyre is the Clinical Lead for Mental Health and Addiction Services at Homecare Medical.
