Club Update
Leadership Forum & AGM
Thank you to the representatives of 23 clubs who attended the Leadership Forum and AGM on 18th June.  The return to a face-to-face forum was very welcome and we hope that all who attended gained something from the day.

The AGM followed the Leadership Forum and this year saw three board members choosing not to renominate:  Louise Williams (Essendon), Liz Robinson and Bruce Moore (Individual Members).  President Mike Grant initially chose to nominate for a General Board position and Cheng Khoo was hoping to assist or mentor if a replacement Treasurer was found.

It was extremely disappointing that the meeting commenced with insufficient nominations to fill all Board positions.  Nominations were called for from the floor but none were forthcoming, and Mike Grant was obliged to renominate as President and Cheng Khoo as Treasurer.  With Robyn Shingles nominating as Vice President, the Secretary’s role was not filled on the day.

Karlene Tomlin (Koonung) joined Simon Mullumby, Simon Burke and Robert Bicknell (Individual Members) as General Board members, leaving three vacancies.  Fortunately, Jenny Hosking (Melbourne Walking Club), approached us following the AGM and was appointed to the Secretary’s role at the July Board meeting.

The current BWV Board for 2022-23 is:

President Mike Grant Bayside Bushwalking Club
Vice President Robyn Shingles Strzelecki Bushwalking Club
Secretary Jenny Hosking Melbourne Walking Club
Treasurer Cheng Khoo  Melbourne University Alumni Bushwalkers
General Board Robert Bicknell Individual Supporter Member
  Michael Burke Individual Supporter Member
  Simon Mullumby  Individual Supporter Member
  Karlene Tomlin Koonung Bushwalking Club

We have also had a change at BTAC with Peter Maffei (Strzelecki) stepping down from his long-time role as Convener.  Joe van Beek (Ben Cruachan) has been appointed to this role.

Our Safety Committee Convener Bob Peterson (Maroondah) has also stepped down and we are seeking a suitable person to take over this important role as well as other volunteers to form a new committee.

Please contact Mike Grant ( if you wish to learn more about any of the vacant roles.
Insurance & Membership Subscriptions
Certificates of Currency have been received from the insurers and sent out to clubs.  The digital membership cards and discount partner listing have also been issued and we would appreciate it if they could be shared with your club members for their benefit.

Annual subscription invoices have also been issued to clubs – a reminder that if you are paying by EFT or depositing your cheque to our Bendigo bank account (our preferred options), please enter your club name or invoice number in as the reference to ensure your payment is allocated correctly.
Positions Available at Bushwalking Victoria
Cheng Khoo has advised that she wishes to step down from the BWV Treasurer’s role - she will be travelling in the first half of 2023 during a busy time at BWV, when we are finalising the budget, preparing the annual accounts and collating the information for insurance renewals.  Members of the Executive may serve only three consecutive years and 2023 will be the third and final term for Cheng.

We need to find a replacement for Cheng as soon as possible so that there is sufficient time to ease her successor into the role.  Ideally, we would like our Treasurer to come from within our club environment, bringing along their club experience and knowledge to our team.  We propose an option that initially the person joins as a general board member or assistant to the Treasurer to learn the ropes before taking over the Treasurer’s position.

Newsletter Editor
Liz Robinson has been doing a wonderful job as our Newsletter Editor but has advised that she wishes to move on from the role. The editor is responsible for sourcing and writing relevant content for the monthly News Bulletin and preparing it for our Admin Officer to input and distribute via Mailchimp. Liz has also been sourcing information for our Facebook posts, although this task does not necessarily have to stay with the editor's role.

Liz is keen to hand over as soon as possible. As Bushwalking News bulletins engage, inform and foster connections between members of the Victorian bushwalking community, this is a rewarding and satisfying role. Working within the framework of BWV's editorial policy, the editor has the opportunity to guide the continued evolution of the Newsletter to meet the needs and interests of all readers. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Robyn Shingles at
Club Communications
If your club has recently held its AGM, please don’t forget to advise us of any changes to committee members: HERE

Note that if you’re advising of changes to email addresses, please check first whether your club has a “generic” email structure in place to streamline the process.  It is much more efficient for Bushwalking Victoria to use the President@ and Secretary@ emails rather than personal ones for correspondence.  Your website should offer the option to set up redirections via generic emails to personal email accounts.

Check with your Website Administrator if this is possible or assistance may be is available via BWV.
