Between now and Christmas I am going to use devotionals each day that have been written by the various pastors/ministry leaders of our church.  They are all gifted individuals and I want you to hear from each of them.  I know you will enjoy these devotionals.  The first one comes from Bruce Raley, our Executive Pastor and my right-hand man!  Enjoy.

Legend holds that Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write the shortest novel in history.  Within a few minutes of the challenge he penned on a napkin:

For sale.  Baby shoes.  Never worn.

This legend may be true, or it might have been fabricated through the years since Hemingway’s death.  Either does not negate the incredible emotions associated with that short story.  Each reader imagines the story behind those six, simple words.

Four chapters in our Bible are associated with the story of Christmas.  In those chapters are the lineage of Christ, the announcements to Joseph and Mary, the birth in Bethlehem, the rejoicing of the shepherds and the journey of the wise men. In addition, there are dozens of prophecies concerning the birth of Jesus.  But in reality, Christmas can be explained in just 6 words:

God in flesh.  Born to save.

That really is the story of Christmas.  The rest…it is all details.

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost.”  Luke 19:10
