Reggie White was an incredible football player and a more incredible human being.  He had two goals in life: the first was not what you would expect.  One of his goals was certainly to be a great football player (mission accomplished) but his primary goal was to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ (again, mission accomplished).
Most of you probably know that he grew up in Chattanooga and played college football at the University of Tennessee.  He went on to have a great professional football career with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers and the Carolina Panthers.  He won too many awards to try to mention.
Because Reggie was a strong Christian, he was often called “the Minister of Defense.”  After one game a reporter asked him what had gone wrong?  The Eagles had lost that day to the Chicago Bears.  His response was not the usual one that reporters get.  After answering some specific football related questions, Reggie said, “well, Jesus is still Lord.”  The reporter had a confused look on his face.  Reggie went on to explain.  He said, “I didn’t say ‘Jesus is Lord’ as some trite religious expression.  I simply want people to know that, sure I hate losing, but this one game isn’t the end of the world for Reggie White… regardless of what happens in our everyday lives – good and, yes, even the bad, Jesus is still Lord and nothing that could occur on earth can change that.”
There is a man who had his priorities in the right order!
Here is a word from the Word:
“But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” (1 Peter 3:15)
Have a great Tuesday!
