The Asheville Kiwanis Club meets for lunch, a business meeting and a guest speaker from 12-1:30pm  on Tuesdays (except for the last Tuesday of the month) in the fellowship hall of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, on the corner of Merrimon Ave. and Chestnut St. (across from Harris Teeter) 

We also have an evening club, Kiwanis One, which meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays from 5:30 - 7 at different venues around town.  Join our Facebook page for up to date information.

  • We had 16 members present at our meeting.  
  • Our updated Bylaws have been approved by Kiwanis International.  You can download them here
  • You should receive a quarter 2 invoice soon.  If you haven't paid Q1 dues please do so as soon as possible.  If you want to pay online you can go to our website and click on donate now.  Please let Ashley know so she will know to move it to the correct place.  If you would like to do an automatic draft, ask Ashley for a bank form at the next meeting.  
  • The updated member directory is at the bottom of our website under members only.  If you need the password, let Elaine know.  You can download it to your computer,or print it out, if you want to keep it handy for quick access.

Tom accepted a check for $358 for Guardian Ad Litem Association of Buncombe County.. This was the money Kiwanis One raised from the 50/50 raffle and donations at the Eluvium fundraiser in November. 
  • Our next meeting will be 5:30-7, January 30 at Zillicoah Beer Company - 870 Riverside Drive.  We'll be discussing another Guardian Ad Litem fundraiser and the drone initiative. 
  • Our officers are going to meet with the Key Club officers on January 25 to see how they can be involved.  We may try to do drone racing event between schools.  
  • Drone Initiative is moving forward.  Windell met with the Chancellor at UNCA   They will partner with us and have some students do service learning and work with kids at Rock Hill Baptist after school program to build drones.  This will begin this semester.  
  • Windell also met with the county sports commissioner recently. They are working with the drone racing league to get a venue, possibly the civic center.  We will partner with the Asheville sports commission.
During January we're going to collect disinfectant wipes for the teachers at Johnston to use in their classrooms.  They are always in need of them,especially during cold and flu season, to wipe down desks and other surfaces.  Please bring a container to a meeting during January.  
Our club gave 2 bikes to students at Johnston for their first semester behavior awards.  
Eliada Home Kiwanis Playground Update
We will be giving about $1800 towards the playground, which is the money raised from the silent auction at our gala.

 January 14 - Amy DeCamp, Events Coordinator for ASAP.  (Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project)  They help local farms thrive, link farmers to markets and supporters, and build healthy communities through connections to local food. There is a farms to schools program, which focuses on reconnecting children with where their food comes from.The Asheville City Markets are also organized by ASAP. 
2019-2020 Officers and Directors
 January 21 - Franzi Charen, Founder/Director of the Asheville Grown Business Alliance.  The Go Local Card celebrates the interdependence of our businesses to each other, public education and to the youth in our community.
  February 4 - Mr. John Noce of the Buncombe County Board of Elections on recent changes to North Carolina voting laws and procedures for the upcoming election cycle.
 February 11 - Ms. Marielle DeJong, Events Manager, Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
 February 18 - Mr. Eric Bradford, Director of Operations for Greenworks
