School Supply Drive
Now - August 31!
As we approach the start of a new school year, our club is preparing its annual school supply project! This year we'll be focusing on the school we adopted, Johnston Elementary, to help build a school supply closet that can be filled year-round and distributed to students in need.
You can help by dropping off any supplies at the ABCCM office (20 20th St) or donating at the link below.

Expo markers
Glue sticks
Ziplock bags (quart and gallon size)
Lysol wipes
After some discussion, the board has decided to try a new format for meetings.  We will be meeting at the Veteran's Restoration Quarters (VRQ) on Tunnel Road on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 12:00 - 1:30 for a lunch meeting. Zoom will be available at these meetings.  We will also meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month for a 5:30 -7 evening meeting at various restaurants around Asheville.  In doing this, we hope that more people will be able to attend at least one of the meeting times. Only the Tuesday meetings will have a speaker scheduled.
The schedule for September will be:
Sept. 9th - evening meeting 5:30 at Stone Ridge Tavern  1003 Brevard Rd. (2nd Thursday due to labor day)
Sept 14th - noon VRQ Speaker Jeff Kaplan, Director of Venture Asheville
Sept 23rd - evening meeting 5:30 Stone Ridge Tavern
Sept 28th -  noon VRQ officer installation
As most of you know, Scott Hicks and his wife will be taking a "gap year" to travel around Europe.  He has created a blog to write about his travels.  If you would like to follow his adventures  click here.  You can add your email and then will receive updates as he adds them.
Our speakers were Jo and Karen Ventrice, American Red Cross Volunteers.  The WNC Red Cross serves over 800,000 people in 16 western counties with 252 volunteers.  Before COVID over 24,000 units of blood were given in WNC. Someone needs blood every 2 seconds, so the need for blood is great since many blood drives have had to be cancelled recently due to the pandemic.
In addition to blood services, The Red Cross provides training services such as CPR, first aid, lifeguarding and babysitting.  They also provide disaster relief to meet the immediate needs of people who have been affected by fire, floods or other natural disasters.
There are many volunteer opportunities in this great organization!
August 24 - Ms. Amanda Gopal, Executive Director of the One Hundred Movement, a local nonprofit dedicated to serving the needs of abused and neglected children in cooperation with local law enforcement. Amanda will update us on how her programs have changed after the Covid pandemic.
August 31 - Stacie Saunders, Director of the Buncombe County Health Department. Stacie will discuss the current needs related to Covid vaccinations in our region and public health issues of interest to residents of Western North Carolina.
