We had a very informative program today with Julie Goodwin, Regional Director of the Asheville Area Better Business Bureau. She reminded us about how prevalent scams are and how to avoid them. In 2020 the top 3 scams in NC were the romance scam ($3.3M), the sweepstakes scam ($1.5M) and the government grant scam. ($186,000).
The BBB website has several very useful tools.  There is a scam tracker where you can report a scam and see scams around where you live and read about them. On their site you are also able to search a business to check out before you do business with them.   You can also call 828-253-2392 and speak to a real person from 9-12 and 1-3 each day.
There are several vaccine scams going around with phone calls and on social media telling people that they're eligible to receive the vaccine.  If they ask for personal information or require you to pay upfront, report this on the scam tracker or call the BBB.
