We had a very interesting and informative program about drones by Wayne Bailey. He is a consultant for NC Public Instruction and teaches classes on public safety with Blue Ridge Mountain Drones
. He has been flying drones since 2016 and got his commercial certification in 2018.
He shared with us about the many ways drones were used during hurricane Fred to show damage and do search and rescue. Just a few ways drones are currently used are to deliver blood in Africa and packages for Amazon and Walmart. It is even predicted that by 2023, drones may use parking decks in big cities as "drone ports" to transport people. Check out North America’s first public demonstration flight of a pilotless air taxi in Raleigh!
There are currently 47 active High Schools in NC that have drone classes for 11th and 12th graders to learn about all the rules and regulations of flying drones and become certified drone pilots.
