Walmart requires suppliers to use traceability system for leafy greens
Russel Redman, Supermarket news
US retail giant WalMart and its subsidiary are requiring suppliers of leafy green vegetables to put foods data on blockchain by September 2019 in an attempt to ensure food safety and quickly determine which farms are contaminated and immediately discontinue supply to grocery stores and restaurants.
WalMart in collaboration with IBM and several suppliers including Dole Fresh Vegetables, have developed blockchain that says allows a significant improvement that can track food from a Walmart Store back to suppliers within seconds rather than days or even weeks. Suppliers should collaborate within their vertical systems or with their own suppliers to implement end-to-end traceability back to farm by September 30, 2019.
