This Saturday, December 3rd, from 12PM-4PM we are looking for volunteers to help facilitate a few services at Box City (7th Street at Irwin), including a BBQ, Portable Shower Demo, Bike Repair Station (Bring your bike!), and Clean-Up Project.

We are also looking for 10-20 volunteers who want to work as a team with Box City and nearby Carolina Street residents over the next month to support garbage pick-up, encampment organization, and community-building with encampment residents. Use the google sign-up form or e-mail us at to get more information.

Update on Box City: The City's Encampment Resolution Team will be focusing on "resolving" the 20-25 person community of residents at Box City starting in a week or two. Our goal is for as many Box City residents as possible to get placed in their chosen housing/shelter option (i.e. an SRO or the Navigation Center) or to be able to stay together and move to a sanctioned area where we can pilot an organized community of transitional sleep & storage structures and other services while they wait for suitable transition options.

"It has been a long hard wait being out here on these streets and also it's hard to even feel a lil bit safe being a single female staying out here in a tent. It would help me feel safer at nite to be able to close a real door and lock it not to have to worry about if someone is going to come take my stuff or have someone come in and mess with me in my sleep and I believe it would be a cleaner place for us all."

These are the words of Becca, a resident of the Carolina Street encampment near Box City, who filled out the Saint Francis Homelessness Challenge form asking to live in a "safe and secure mini mobile shelter in an organized encampment while waiting for long-term indoor housing or shelter".

Come out on Saturday: We are looking to find volunteers for the month of December to help with trash organizing/pick-up, community-building, and collecting info:
