I want to first of all thank you for being here and for your patience with some changes that are having to take place for FunNation. While we all make plans and want things to go a certain way, there are times when certain unexpected things happen that cause us to stop, reassess and redirect our plans and path. For some people those unexpected things may be good and for others maybe not so good.
I am blessed and grateful for my life and I was super excited for all the plans FunNation had this semester and then things started to fall apart. My Zumba reservation room did not workout, our Fun4Wellness Workshop location is no longer available, my personal life has taken a bit of a turn, and I missed two exams. I was finding myself feeling emotionally stressed trying to keep up and having to change everything.
On November 3rd, at our volunteering event (The Gathering), I met these two beautiful people who were homeless and now reside at Community First! Village. I was not as hungry so I gave my meal to the lady, her name is Mona Lisa. As her and Justin shared their story it made me reflect on so many things. Justin, is a Navy vet, now runs a small pickling business and Mona Lisa has aspirations to do so many things. We ended up sharing and laughing throughout our meal.
While I arrived there feeling emotionally stressed knowing I had so much to do, I left inspired by them, feeling great and even more blessed. It was beautiful to hear their goals and dreams after all they've been through. My friends, this is a month of not only being thankful, but maybe taking some more time to reflect, to grow from all of our experiences, and make the changes we need not only for ourselves, but maybe to help others. As our semester theme goes, "It Starts With You!" :)
Please join us at our upcoming events as we work to gather, grow, and give!
Love and Blessings,
Carol Ann Hernandez
