Room in the Wood
So far so good – there’s lots of progress to see with :-
  • the house extension for the new Breakfast Room (and kitchen enlargement),
  • the new pathway between the house and the ‘Room’ and…
  • the ‘Room in the Wood’ itself.
Many thanks to all those working on our project, especially all the builders from MacQueens, Andrew Tait from R.House, and Andrew Peters on the landscaping.

We are already taking Room in the Wood bookings for June 2017 onwards – do give us a ring on 01478 650 378 to reserve your stay at the Room in the Wood.
New Signage

Here’s a picture of our new welcome sign, visible from the road through Camustianavaig.

Many thanks to Bramble Signs of North Yorkshire and Skyewebsites (for the excellent design work).

John Muir Trust

We’ve been personal members of the conservation charity The John Muir Trust for some time, but now we’ve decided to make a bigger commitment to the work of the JMT by taking out a corporate membership. Go to www.johnmuirtrust.org for more details of how the JMT seeks to protect and enhance wild places in the United Kingdom.

Since living on Skye we’ve helped the JMT with footpath improvement on Bla Bheinn and helped Sarah Lewis the JMT Skye Conservation Officer with a blanket bog survey. We look forward to helping some more in 2017.

N.B. Members of the JMT benefit from a discount on our Room in the Wood prices.

Did you know?....

Did you know that the Isle of Skye has a working railway? It operates at Storr Lochs hydroelectric power station on the east coast of the Trotternish peninsula. It is actually a funicular railway and carries spares and supplies down a 1 in 2 gradient.

The carriage is attached to a steel cable and is driven from the winch house at the top of the hill down to the 2.4 MW power station at Bearreraig Bay.  The hydro power station opened in 1952 when it provided power for the whole of Skye. These days, the power generated is used as a back-up to the Highlands powergrid.
