Did you know?....
Did you know that the Isle of Skye has a working railway? It operates at Storr Lochs hydroelectric power station on the east coast of the Trotternish peninsula. It is actually a funicular railway and carries spares and supplies down a 1 in 2 gradient.
The carriage is attached to a steel cable and is driven from the winch house at the top of the hill down to the 2.4 MW power station at Bearreraig Bay. The hydro power station opened in 1952 when it provided power for the whole of Skye. These days, the power generated is used as a back-up to the Highlands powergrid.
