Grace Fricks received the prestigious Visions of Excellence Award at the 2017 Atlanta Business League CEO Appreciation Luncheon held May 16 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. The award recognizes an individual within the community who is committed to a vision for Atlanta and its surrounding communities. That vision is of harmony and safety and is responsive to the needs of all citizens with fair and just economic parity. The Atlanta Business League states that, to understand this, an individual must be able to envision the dream - believe it is possible - and be an active participant and developer in the realization of it.

The hunt is on for innovative products and services that help impact and empower the lives of women and families. Women entrepreneurs can compete against their peers in the U.S. SBA's 2017 InnovateHER Business Challenge. The local winner receives business mentoring before heading to the semifinal national competition round this summer.

The InnovateHER Atlanta competition, hosted by CEO School for Women in cooperation with the ACE Women's Business Center, offers free webinars, workshops, and coaching to help entrants compete. May 22 is the entry deadline, and a "Pitch Night" will take place May 25.  Use code ACE for a 25% discount on the entry fee.

Startup Atlanta Honors Grace Fricks with Its First Lifetime Achievement Award

At its inaugural awards ceremony on May 12, Startup Atlanta honored Grace Fricks for her vision, entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership. The Atlanta Startup Awards recognize the city's most successful rising tech companies, startup pioneers, and disruptive innovators. Choosing Grace as an award recipient fits ideally within these categories. In 2016, 38% of ACE loans were given to startups, creating 224 jobs. 

$10K Scholarship App Extended to May 31st

The application deadline for the Small & Diverse Business Education Fund Scholarship has been extended to May 31, 2017.  This scholarship, sponsored by Bank of America and managed and administered by Communities Foundation of Texas will award 50 scholarships of up to $10,000 each to business owners of qualified certified small and diverse businesses for targeted training and development to enhance their business.

Client Spotlight: Caribbean Smooth: Ou-Oui Premium Liqueurs

After years of making delicious fruit drinks from scratch, Caribbean Smooth founder Nigel Walwyn concocted an adult beverage pairing his fresh juice with local rums and spices. In March 2014, Nigel left his 25-year career as an award-winning television journalist to take up entrepreneurship. A Fifth Third banker introduced Nigel to ACE's Sandy Headley who supported approval for an ACE loan. Production of Ou-Oui! Premium Liqueurs started immediately after the loan closing.
