Chief Huber Receives Chief Fire Officer Designation

Fire Chief Otto Huber, of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department, has successfully completed the process that awards him the professional designation of Chief Fire Officer (CFO).  The Commission on Professional Credentialing met on February 7, 2017, to officially confer the re-designation upon Chief Huber.

Chief Huber is one of only 1,210 CFOs worldwide to receive this designation. The Chief Fire Officer Designation Program is a voluntary program designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate their excellence in seven measured components including: experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement, and technical competencies.

Chief Huber received his original designation in 2004.  To maintain the designation, individuals need to reapply every three years and show they have continued to develop as a CFO in the areas listed above. A Board of Review consisting of members of the fire and emergency services profession, academia, and municipal agencies review each application and recommends successful candidates for designation to the Commission.

Chief Huber has been a member of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department since 1976 and has dedicated his entire career to public safety for the City of Loveland.

Volunteer for the Rain Barrel Art Auction

The Regional Storm Water Collaborative is seeking volunteers for its Rain Barrel Art Auction on April 20, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cincinnati Zoo.  The auction takes place during two other events - Tunes & Blooms and Party for the Planet.

Volunteers will aid before, during, and after the Rain Barrel Art Auction, but there will also be plenty of time to grab a bite to eat, listen to the music, or explore the many booths with information on composting, energy efficiency, sustainable food, green products, and more.

This is a great opportunity for students to get service hours and help those who participated in the Rain Barrel Art Competition.

If you would like to volunteer, email Susie Steffensen at or call 513-732-7075 ext. 2.  For more information on the Rain Barrel Art Project, visit
