Art Center Morro Bay

To champion art as essential to life and give our community
a creative voice

From the President’s Desk

This year Etty Klinger, owner of Art Central, located in SLO, turned very special donations into cash.  Working together with Morro Bay Art Association, the funds derived from an act of kindness were added to the MBAA art scholarship budget.  As a result, (4) deserving Morro Bay High School graduates, each received a $500. scholarship, to help further their education.  Congratulations to Alayna Nichols, Hannah Lykes, Jacob Furbee and Zoe Linstrom!  Zoe is a former MBAA student intern!

On July 8, 3-5pm, Anne Hodges and Paula Hulet, owners of Cracked Up Mosaic, will show us how to create beautiful mosaics in a step-by-step demonstration.  Attendees will learn how to design and create a mosaic stepping stone.  If you’ve ever wondered how to create mosaics, don’t miss this fun filled, free event!

Congratulations to Alice Isaac for selling an original watercolor painting at TD Parker Salon!  This is one of the newer businesses involved in the MBAA Art in Business program.  For more information on how you may participate, contact Sue Palmer at slosuepalmer@gmail.com.

The Annual MBAA Juried Exhibit is just around the corner!  Entry into this exciting competition is open through August 1st.  Be sure to submit your applications!  https://artcentermorrobay.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/All-Media-Juried-Show-Prospectus-2019-2-18-19.pdf

Art Center Morro Bay has a strong presence in the community due impart to our awesome marketing team!  When you see great images and stories online, in print or on KSBY news, it’s a result of the consistent and dedicated efforts behind the scenes of Rosemary Bauer, Ellen November, Mari O’Brien, and Jan Paulson.  Thank you!  Your “Rock-star” efforts really get us noticed!

Janet Hillson works diligently every month to bring you an informative newsletter, filled with all of the latest happenings at Art Center Morro Bay!  Janet has a multitude of responsibilities as the MBAA Board Secretary.  Taking minutes, ensuring licensing is up to date, volunteering as a docent and organizing the latest Chamber of Commerce event are just to name a few!  Janet works with local businesses to offer great door prize give-aways at the annual holiday dinners and more recently helped promote the children's summer art classes.  Thanks Janet, we're all so lucky that you have chosen MBAA to donate your time and efforts!

This month we bid a sad farewell to Liz Moore, MBAA Youth Education Director.  Liz has worked with students in an effort to teach them how to enter an art competition and properly frame their work for these events.  She has helped managed the MBAA Student Exhibits and distribute children's summer art class information in the community.  She plays a key role in the Just One program that allows students the opportunity to practice job interviewing techniques with local businesses.  After 2 plus years of dedicated board service, we hope Liz will find more time for fun things including her beautiful watercolor paintings!  We are deeply grateful for the time Liz has provided this organization, as a Board Member, liaison and volunteer.  The young people you have touched are the future of our community and MBAA.  Thank you Liz!

There's always a need for volunteers like you!  If you are reading this message and think ,"I can't do this, or I don't know how to help", we know differently!   There is training available for everything we do!  We are looking for the next super hero and that just may be you!  Positions are open for Gallery Director, Vice President and Treasury Assistant and Children's Art Class Assistant.  If you would like more information about any of these important positions, please contact any board member.
