Colleen Ray has introduced and organized a series of lectures by Tess Wright.  Ms. Wright’s lecture, Love and Work, was interesting and educational.  During her lectures, Tess tells a story with the use of a slide show and/or video.  Don’t miss her extended lecture of artist couples in, Love and Work II, coming soon.  Thank you, Colleen!

We enjoyed plein air painting with Debra Joy Groesser!  This workshop challenged us to think about surroundings, value and editing artwork. Debra also shared sample oil paint color and a non toxic painting medium.

Next up, Astrophotography; Adding Light to Your Milky Way Images, with Brady Cabe on July 6 & 7, 8pm - midnight.  This will be an outstanding workshop for photographers who don’t mind braving the dark, and are interested in learning about camera light settings!

The Cuong Nguyen workshop, teaches students the green method of underpainting, that will add a nice glow and depth to your pastel paintings.  His methods can be used in other areas and mediums of artwork.  Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from an internationally known and sought out instructor!  This workshop will be August 2, 3 & 4.

New brochures and event schedules will be available for you at the gallery soon.  I would like to thank Jan French for her work and dedication.  Jan also designs our show posters and ads for the NewTimes.

Art Center Morro Bay is a board run, member supported, non-profit organization. Membership includes opportunities to exhibit artwork within the gallery, local businesses and Art in the Park.  Members may attend classes, workshops and other gallery related events at a free or reduced rate.  Membership comes with a responsibility to help support the organization and daily operation of the gallery.  There is still an urgent need for volunteers as docents and board positions to include Docent Directorand Gallery Director.  A small volunteer job can make a huge difference to all of us working hard to make Art Center Morro Bay one of the best galleries on the Central Coast.

June Demo

Plein Aire Painting with
Debra Joy Groesser

June’s Monday plein air demo was given to a packed house.  Debra Joy Groesser demonstrated painting from plein air studies. This award winning plein air artist, noted for her impressionistic style shared with us the techniques she uses to create true to life color in her art.  Starting with the washes she used at the beginning of her piece to the subtle colors of sky, water and waves, Groesser demonstrated skill and expertise while nearly finishing a beautiful seascape in just 2 hours.  She also shared some of her favorite products especially suited to plein air painting.  One of them being the Rosemary & Company brushes she gets from England and the RayMar linen panels she uses for her paintings.  Debra Joy Groesser will be our juror for the upcoming exhibit starting September 20th.  Please visit www.artcentermorrobay.org for details and prospectus.

Given away as a raffle item was one of Debra Joy Groesser’s plein air pieces done just the day before, capturing the beautiful Eucalyptus trees and boats of Morro Bay; valued at over $400.
The winner of the raffle was Colleen Ray.  Congratulations Collen!
On a sad note, we would like to honor a dear friend for many years to the Morro Bay Art Association, Barbara Fageol who recently passed away.  Barbara's husband Bill is a past President of the Association. Our sympathies are extended to Bill and his family.

Morro Bay Art Association is proud to present Zentangle© with certified instructor, Debbie Gedayloo.  Debbie has practiced the art of Zentangle© for four years stating, “Often when sitting in meditation, I simply can’t quiet my mind and I bounce all over the place in my head. But, when I put the pen to the Zentangle© tile, the outside stimuli fade away and my entire being becomes quiet.” Debbie believes in the healing potential of this method and is excited to teach others how to tap into the hidden wisdom in each of us!

The Zentangle Method© of mindful creation is a way to relax, focus and expand one’s imagination. Through guided systematic patterns, students learn to trust their creativity, increase awareness, respond confidently to the unexpected and discover the fun and healing in creative expression.
