FUN WITH DRAWING
FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!
Over 25 years ago, Marjory fell in love with her first Arabian horse, Wind Khloud. This special bond inspired Marjory to begin drawing realistic equine portraits.
This demonstration will consist of techniques with traditional charcoal, graphite and Cretacolor Nero pencil, an oil based charcoal. Marjory will share the advantages of various papers, mediums and methods in sketching. She will also share how to create textures and values to produce realistic looking artwork.
Learn about the possibilities and effects of these fundamental drawing tools for lifelike interpretation in your artwork!
There’s something for everyone’s aesthetic taste in two extraordinary exhibits just opened on June 15. In the Russell Gallery, we’re honored to host “On and Off the Wall”, juried by Dr. Ruta Saliklis. On display is a beautiful variety of two- and three-dimensional works of the Central Coast Sculpture Group and the Painters Group of SLOMA, while the Main Gallery is rockin’ with sixty-plus interpretations of Morro Rock in an all-media exhibit, “Let’s Rock!”. It’s sometimes hard to believe that these outstanding presentations are the work of an all-volunteer team of workers! We’re very lucky to have some very talented and dedicated members in all areas of the operation of MBAA! Thanks to Colleen Ray, Shirley Horacek, Kelly Clark, and Sharon Westray working Take-in, Gail Martin, working Take-Out, while Marilyn Miller was creating those nicely formatted gallery-id tags for this show. Sylvia Arnold-Hill, Margareta Lund, Colleen Ray, and Robin Mize are responsible for hanging the works in the Main Gallery, with Halie Wieser, Linda Roletti, and Trudy Calandra pitched in to put on the finishing touches. And did you notice our colorful new front window banner design, the work of Jan French? Thanks to all of you who pulled this beautiful exhibit together! Our opening reception welcomed a record-setting number of enthusiastic guests on Sunday, June 18, with delicious hors d’oeurves, drink, and some very nice sales! Winner of the “People’s Choice” award for our previous show, “Homage to the Ranches” is Bruce Miller for his “Morning 2017”. Winners of the People’s Choice award will have submission fees waived for the next open-entry show entered. Congratulations, Bruce! Upcoming: Thanks to all you boundary-pushing artists who’ve submitted your artworks to “Pushing Boundaries: Exploring Abstraction”. From the looks of all that’s been submitted, this promises to be a very exciting show! Looking forward to the opening reception and awards presentation on August 6.

Shirley Horacek's workshop Watercolor with Mixed Media
Shirley's enthusiasm for mixing watercolor and mixed media, infused the room with a wonderful energy! Attendees were captivated by her beautiful paintings and creative style. Shirley demonstrated her process of starting with a simple pencil drawing, adding definition with a calligraphy pen, filling out the piece with watercolors, and finally adding layers of painted tissue papers and more watercolor. The end result was gorgeous!
Shirley generously donated a giclee print of a beautiful sunflower painting. The lucky winner of the piece was Lorene Cabrera. Congratulations, Lorene, and thank you, Shirley, for a fabulous demo!
Past Morro Bay Art Association President, KC Caldwell, awarded three promising new artists scholarships at Morro Bay High School on the evening of June 6.
