To champion art as essential to life and give our community
a creative voice
From the President’s Desk
Summer is heating up and so are sales at the gallery! Congratulations to all who sold artwork and/or received requests for special orders during The Morros exhibit and Art in the Park. Next up, CCWS and Thru the Lens. Both of these impressive exhibits will open Thursday, August 8th. The opening reception with award ceremonies will be Sunday, August 11, 2-4pm.
Last month our docents were treated to a special luncheon meeting, organized and headed up by MBAA’s Docent Director, Michael Costa. Michael provided training and treated everyone to his awesome, home-made cupcakes too!
As technology grows, so does MBAA’s online presence! Did you know members may have a personal art related website URL with an image added to the ARTISTS page? We are eventually going paperless! As you renew memberships online, you may begin to notice being prompted to “log-in. What does that mean to you? Once you’ve paid dues online, you may simply go to the MEMBERSHIP page, log-in, and update your own address and contact information. It’s easy! These changes will help volunteers better manage their time and MBAA become more efficient.
Gail Martin has a great lineup of art filled events planned for you this month! Back by popular demand, Debbie Gedayloo with a hands-on, felting demo. Next, a family style dinner at the gallery, followed by an excursion to Bruce Munro’s breathtaking art installation, A Field of Light at Sensorio, located in Paso Robles! Get the most out of your camera equipment by taking Brady Cabe’s Astrophotography Workshop or a great watercolor workshop with Nancy Collins!
Please welcome new Children’s Youth Education Director, Cynthia Bunting! Cynthia will be taking over children’s programming. Cynthia and her husband recently returned to Cayucos after experiencing a snowy Iowa winter! Cynthia has stepped in as a docent too!
Phillip Lopez and Menno Isaac installed a new kiosk by the gate. Thank you Phil and Menno, this beautiful addition will house informative posters for a long time to come!
There's always a need for volunteers like you! Positions are still open for (2) Co-Gallery Directors, Vice President and Treasury Assistant. MBAA is a great gallery because so many wonderful people assist in some small way! I cannot continue to work at the current pace, holding down two huge board positions at the same time! I need help! If you are considering the possibility of taking one of these prestigious positions, please let me know. I'm happy to train you in what could be a fulfilling experience. Come join us, we're a great board!

RTA BUS STOP UPDATE
The RTA bus stop proposals for Morro Bay Blvd. and Harbor Street are moving forward, so here’s the latest.....
The City of Morro Bay, Public Works Department has completed 4 engineered proposals. These proposals will be discussed during an upcoming PWAB meeting, open to the public. Soon after, PWAB recommendations will be offered to the Morro Bay City Council for their consideration and decision.
To complicate things, The City of Morro Bay recently hired an outside source to conduct a fee analyses. The city is trying to generate more income. This means permit fees normally charged for Art in the Park, could potentially rise from hundreds to thousands of dollars per season. A meeting with city employees to discuss potential fee hikes will be held August 8, 4pm at the Vets Hall.
This meeting is open to the public and you are welcomed to attend.

Thank you to Anne Hodges and Paula Hulet for sharing their love and knowledge of mosaics with us for this month’s free art demo. Handouts were given to all with instructions and materials lists for making mosaics at home. The time was split between the two artists with Paula breaking tiles, gluing tiles, and designing a brand new stepping stone. Anne followed, showing us how to grout a work in progress, smooth the edges and finally sealing a finished piece which by the way, was the raffle prize! They had lots of tips on how to make the most out of the materials and when to use different tiles to give maximum utility.
The lucky raffle winner was Natalie Ramos.
