We bid a sad farewell to KC Caldwell, President. After sixteen months of dedicated service, we hope she will have more time for art and other special interests.
While I pick up the baton, as Interim President, I look forward to a continued working relationship with a very capable Board of Directors, the MBAA membership and community at large.
Summer is right around the corner and with it brings graduation, Art in the Park and youth art classes, perfect for the entire family. Congratulations go to three well deserving scholarship winners, Emile McKenna Lopez, $750.00, Juliana Ruef $500.00 and Amber Janzen $500.00. Student interns will assist docents and board members as they learn new skills. Finally, I would like to say “thanks”, as we would not be a success without our docents, members, exhibitors and volunteers.
If you’re still looking for something fun to do this summer, try the Zen Doodle, adult coloring book class, it’s fun and it’s free!

We were thrilled to have over 100 beautiful submissions and honored to have Cambrian artist Steve Kellogg jury for acceptance. We are doubly appreciative of the SLO county ranchers who opened their ranches to artists and selected the artworks for ribbons. Many thanks to Kathi Souza, Eleanor Truocchio, John Madonna, Gabriel Miossi, Don Warden, Ernie Dalidio and John Belsher, who selected the following for “Ranchers’ Choice” awards:
Park Merrill for “Montano de Oro Ranch”
Joan Sullivan for “Retired Harvester" and "Bonetti Ranch”

And many thanks to all the volunteers who worked to put this all together!
Winner of the “People’s Choice” award in our previous show, “Sense of Identity” goes to Jesse Woodward, for his metal sculpture, “Megapterra”. Congratulations, Jesse!
Upcoming Shows: Not that we, as fine artists, want to be seen as catering to the tourist trade; however, the season is upon us and rock-enamored tourists are coming to town. So – if you have a painting or the inspiration for a painting of our majestic Morro Rock, it might be just the thing for our upcoming show, “Let’s Rock”. And won’t it be interesting to see how many interpretations, impressions and perspectives we can show in the Main Gallery?
Concurrently in the Russell Gallery, we’ll be honored to host “On and Off the Wall”, a juried exhibition of The Painters Group and the Central Coast Sculpture Group of SLOMA. Take-in for both shows is June 13, 10 am - 2 pm. Then June 15 is the deadline for receipt of digital submissions for “Pushing Boundaries”. Award-winning artist Krista Harris (www.kristaharris.com) will jury for acceptance, and significant monetary and merchant prizes will be awarded. Please see the Prospectus for “Pushing Boundaries” on our website at: https://artcentermorrobay.org/index.php/gallery/current-exhibit/exhibit-schedule/

Attendees were guided through the steps to paint directional movement of background swells, crashing waves, surface foam and wet sand. Patricia shared her glazing techniques for dramatic effect to provide depth and create shimmering light on water.

Morro Bay Car Show May 4 - 7th
The Morro Bay Art Gallery was a participant in this year's annual Morro Bay Car Show the first weekend in May - Manual Cruz worked on his paintings in the front window of the gallery for all passersby to watch and Kaya Gwinn sold her beautiful, car-related cards inside the gallery. Monae's Tacos set up and sold delicious tacos to those participants hungry enough to battle the wind! Left over tacos were donated to the gallery and became a huge hit for the "Homage to the Ranches" art reception!
