August Newsletter
Morro Bay Art Association
From the President’s Desk
The Morro Bay Art Association continues to grow and now stands at over 170 members strong.  With so much great talent, we have a lot of new opportunity to learn from each other and give back to the community we serve.  Each of you contributes by being a member, showing your work, teaching classes and volunteering. Thank you to all who have joined in the past year!

Here's what's new this month:
If you haven't already, be sure to take a test drive of the new MBAA website by clicking here: Your comments and suggestions will help it continue to get better.  Great big hugs to Jayne Wayne Designs in SLO and our own Patricia Newton for making it happen.

“Estero Bay Artists in Residence, 1920-1970”, is our latest exhibit in the Main Gallery.  It is a beautiful retrospective of our area by notable Central Coast artists.  On behalf of the MBAA Board, our heartfelt thanks go out to the Historical Society of Morro Bay, Glenn Silloway, Donna Stoll, and especially Marti Eckstrom, who is generous enough to share her collection with our community and visitors.  You’ll find more information on this in Dianne Ravin's piece, From the Gallery, below.

Three new classes are coming to Art Center Morro Bay: Mosaic, Zentangle/Adult Coloring Book Club, and Beginning Drawing.  Read on for more information and registration.

And as always... make time to create something this month!
Registration is open for the Krista Harris Workshop

From the Gallery
Something of “historic” proportions is taking place at the Morro Bay Art Association as we collaborate with the Historical Society of Morro Bay in presenting:
“Estero Bay Artists-in-Residence, 1920-1970”.

This exhibition, on view in the Art Center Main Gallery, consists of a selection of fine art on loan by private collector, Martha Eckstrom, and is being shown to the public for the first time during this event.  It features such notable artists as:
Aaron Kilpatrick, C.H. “Robbie” Robinson, Bess Elliott, Dana Bartlett, Everett Jensen, Stanton and Gladys Gray, Joyce Pike, Marian Barnett, Robert Pyle, and Ray Eckstrom.
This exhibition will play a significant role at the outset of Morro Bay’s “Hidden History” project, a five-year effort designed to bring greater awareness and understanding of the history that shaped this unique place on the Central Coast.
Concurrently showing in the Russell Gallery will be:
“Estero Bay Artists-in-Residence 1970 – Today”.
This is an open exhibit featuring the work of MBAA members and associated artists.
Both exhibitions opened August 10.  On August 12, the Historical Society hosted an Opening Reception and Silent Auction that coincided with Friday Night Art.  Attendance was the highest ever – we stopped stopped counting at 174 people!

Exchange date is September 16.

Members who are interested in selling their work at the Labor Day ART in the PARK need to sign up now.
