The Global Index on Responsible AI

The Global Index on Responsible AI website is now live!

Visit our new website to learn more about the research to be undertaken in the new year to measure the responsible use of AI around the world in over 120 countries, as well as about opportunities for participation and upcoming events

Our news section is home to blog posts that provide additional insights into our work and events. The latest blog provides a summary of the most recent workshop on Feminism and AI from the perspective of the Global South.

Through this new website, we hope to engage with people from various sectors who may be interested in collaborating with us, who might provide some input into the development of key indicators, or who may simply want to learn more about the responsible use of AI. The website will evolve over time to display the work that is being developed by the Global Index team. Stay tuned!

In other news, we are hosting consultations in order to gain input from participants to support the development of indicators that will measure the responsible use of AI in the most accurate way possible. The measurement framework for the Global Index is currently being finalised, and will be shared on the project website later this year.

Let's Talk About Data and AI

A comprehensive data governance strategy – and a clear understanding of the complex system of the Datasphere and its elements (e.g., actors, norms, and data) – is critical for the effective use of data for development and to ensure present and future technologies generate benefits and well-being for all.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies, powered by data, raise complex data governance questions, underscoring the need for transparency, accountability, and inclusive design. This is difficult when data-related decisions and their impacts may not be fully understood by governments or practitioners leading to adverse effects on desired development outcomes.

To identify and address the data governance challenges that arise within AI, the Data for Development Network ( and the Datasphere Initiative are embarking on a year-long dialogue via a webinar series to unpack regional experiences and shine a light on the trends, challenges, and opportunities coming out of the Global South. The series will kick off on 20 October, 2022 with a global framing session, when experts in data and AI will discuss why we need to talk about data governance and regional perspectives in the context of advancing responsible Artificial Intelligence. Resource Centre

D4D Network Resource Centre

We recently announced the launch of the new D4D Resource Centre available on The Centre is a growing repository of knowledge where you can now find over 500 resources to help academia, civil society, and governments work together to discover, manage, and use data for development.

How to use the Resource Centre: You can search resources by filtering and narrowing results by area of interest, resource type, region, and source organisation. The Resource Centre is still in the beta phase, so if you have any suggestions and feedback about its functionality, you can leave them here. We hope this site will be used as a tool to facilitate research and inform public policy and debate on the application of data to address critical development challenges.
