Dear friend of FLOW,

We all share a relationship to the fresh waters of the Great Lakes Basin. And we also share this troubling awareness: the water on which all life depends—for drinking, food production, sanitation, recreation, transportation, livelihood, spiritual connection, and more—faces grave threats.

Our inland lakes, wetlands, rivers, streams, groundwater, and the majestic Great Lakes themselves—Who is defending these resources on behalf of the public? On our shared behalf?

You are. FLOW is. We are! Together we are defending from harm and depletion an irreplaceable treasure that we literally can’t live without, our Great Lakes waters.

We start by empowering you—partner organizations, communities, and civic leaders—with facts and information and by educating lawmakers at every level of government so that they can put in place or strengthen laws and policies affecting water quality and quantity throughout the Great Lakes Basin.

Alongside FLOW, you defend our water by helping to advance science-based laws and sound policies.

FLOW’s team of lawyers, journalists, and policy experts—with your support—offers analysis and strategy that help guide water policy implementation and enforcement, and our team builds coalitions to maximize our power.

Alongside FLOW, you defend our water by demanding good governance.

And when the public’s right to clean water is violated, you enable FLOW to pursue justice.

Because of you, FLOW can deploy deep legal expertise and analysis to fight for our right to clean water in the Great Lakes Basin wherever it is on trial.  FLOW develops legal strategies, identifies expert testimony, and files amicus briefs on the public’s behalf.

Alongside FLOW, you defend our water with authoritative legal arguments.

When you support FLOW, you are doing so much to keep the waters of the Great Lakes Basin healthy, public, and protected for all—for generations to come. Together, we can continue to defend our fresh water by upholding the public’s rights and our leaders’ responsibilities through education, analysis, strategy—all for LOVE of water.

With thanks for all you do on behalf of our shared fresh waters,

Liz Kirkwood
Executive Director

P.S.—Please consider making a gift today to support FLOW’s work advancing science-based laws, sound policies, good governance, and authoritative legal arguments—all on behalf of water in the Great Lakes. And if you have already made a gift in this season to defend water in the Great Lakes, THANK YOU!
