Order of Service
December 20th, 2020 – 4th Sunday of Advent – LOVE!
INTROIT – “Hope Shines as a Solitary Star”                               - Jillian & Shauna
When a candle is lit, its flame gives out warmth and light.  It is thus a symbol of the love which brings warmth and light to all who give and all who receive - for this love is of God.
We light this candle as a pledge of our love for the world, for one another and for ourselves.  May this flame, gentle and quiet, call us back to the one who first loved us, that our love may be strengthened and God’s name honoured.  We light this candle for Love.
CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive)
ONE: In this season of expectation
ALL:  we prepare to welcome Christ Jesus.
ONE: Into the bustle of our lives and the hard to find moments of solitude
ALL:  we prepare to welcome Christ Jesus.
ONE: Into our homes and situations along with friends and family
ALL:  we prepare to welcome Christ Jesus.
ONE: Into our hearts, and those often hidden parts of our lives
ALL:  we prepare to welcome Christ Jesus.
ONE: For beneath the surface of your story is an inescapable fact: You entered this world as vulnerable as any one of us in order to nail that vulnerability to the cross.  Our fears, our insecurities and our sins — all that can separate us from God —exchanged by your Grace for Love.
ALL:  We cannot comprehend the reasoning, only marvel that Salvation        comes to us through a baby born in a stable, and reaches out to a world in need.
ONE: In this season of anticipation
ALL:  we prepare to welcome Christ Jesus.
HYMN:   VU #1 O Come, O Come Emmanuel
God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought joy into this world,
be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre, the focus of our lives always,

and particularly this Advent time.  AMEN
“My heart praises the Lord;
my soul is glad because of God my Savior,
for he has remembered me, his lowly servant!
From now on all people will call me happy,
because of the great things the Mighty God has done for me.
His name is holy;
   from one generation to another
he shows mercy to those who honor him.
He has stretched out his mighty arm
and scattered the proud with all their plans.
He has brought down mighty kings from their thrones,
    and lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away with empty hands.
He has kept the promise he made to our ancestors,
and has come to the help of his servant Israel.
He has remembered to show mercy to Abraham
and to all his descendants forever!”
Old Testament:         2 Samuel 7: 1-11, 16
Gospel Reading:      Luke 1: 26-38  (New English Version)
HYMN:  VU #74 What Child is This
MINUTE FOR MISSIONS                                                          - Mary-Lou Ross
Holy one, giver of all good things, from you
all blessings flow; out of the abundance of your blessings we offer you these gifts.
Take and bless our gifts and our lives to your use and purpose in this world.  And may your reign of hope, peace, joy and love be extended by them.  AMEN
CLOSING HYMN:  VU#64 O Little Town of Bethlehem
As you enter these last days of Advent and journey toward Bethlehem, may you find Mary and Joseph alive within you.
Christ is about to be born in Bethlehem and Christ is reborn in the Bethlehems of our homes and our lives.
Take time, slow down, be still, be awake to the signs of God’s presence.
And may the Love of God,
The Peace of Christ,
And the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit go with you on your journey.
And never forget that you are a loved child of God.
Go in peace.
“Go Now in Peace”
Go now in peace, never be afraid
God will go with you each hour of every day
Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true
Know God will guide you in all you do.
Go now in love and show you believe
Reach out to others, so all the world can see.
God will be there, watching from above.
Go now in peace, in faith and in love.
Amen.  Amen.  Amen
