“Languishing.” That’s the latest popular word to describe how many of us feel as the pandemic rolls on. COVID-19 has amplified our losses and disrupted how we grieve. Blessedly, many organizations that your Mission & Service gifts sustain provide life-saving help. Here’s one story for you to share in your service or newsletter, about how your support helps people live well through grief and loss.

People experiencing loss share what brings them hope on a wall at Ste-Geneviève United Church.

Summer "Virtual" Day Camp Counsellor

Innerkip United Church is considering running a "Virtual" day camp this summer and we need young, energetic, creative staff to run it!

The idea is to operate a mostly screen-free program, where families would get a package for the week, with craft and activity supplies in it, and then the counsellor(s) would spend maybe a few minutes in the morning doing an opening and introduction to the day in a Zoom and then the kids would be on their own to do the activities for the day. Then a closing and wrap up could happen in the afternoon. Singing and possibly some adapted games could happen online, as well, but the base of the camp is to be screen-free and outside a lot.

We are looking for one or two staff to plan and lead this program. The staff would have to be able to develop ways to adapt the usual program including games and activities, songs and prayers, to be done by individuals and/or siblings. We are imagining similar themes to past years at Wondercamp, such as cooking, sports, animals, time travel, etc but that is up to the staff that are running the program.  It is expected that the planning, purchasing, communication and execution of the program will be completed by the staff, with minimal support from church staff as needed. This is a paid position.

If you are interested, or know someone that might be, please contact Mel at the Church Office.

News and Views of Oxford County United Churches
June 9, 2021

We hardly had time to celebrate the wonderful news that part of our church family in Ethiopia, will soon be evaluated by our Canadian representative when we learned of the shattering discovery of 215 graves in Kamloops, BC. These children were part of the government and church’s outreach family many years ago. We mourn their deaths.  As we learn about respectful ‘outreach/mission’, we realize that our previous thinking and theology was too restrictive and narrow.  Rather than growing our economy, we need to emphasize: growing our thinking about the interrelatedness of ALL things; where God – Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer – is; and achieving a sustainable future for all creation.
Inside, look for the new/renewed thinking of people moving on with hope, of people working ecumenically with others, of the UCW inspiring project ‘Women for Change – Zambia’, of the story of the Monarch butterfly.  And organizations adapt to meet the needs of today, fundraise and teach us new ways to respect Mother Earth.
