Mission Accomplished
At just four months old, Ally Ruedas was diagnosed with Epilepsy. Her tiny body had endured so many seizures that she was having trouble developing, eating, and meeting normal milestones. To help her receive necessary nutrients from food, Doctors inserted a g tube into Ally’s stomach. On top of ongoing concerns about her daughter’s health, Ally’s mom worried that her daughter would never be able to eat food by mouth.

At age 3, Ally was enrolled in the Feeding Therapy Program at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. The program would help Ally overcome her feeding issues and develop healthy habits. The six-week-long program, located in Richmond, was nearly two hours away from her family’s home in Woodbridge, Virginia. The drive back and forth every day would be expensive and also tiring and strenuous on Ally and on her mom.  A hotel room in Richmond for six weeks would cost thousands of dollars. The hospital presented their family with a third option that met all of their needs, Richmond’s Ronald McDonald House.

Superheroes in Action

The Rollins family has been volunteering together at the Ronald McDonald House for over a year. The Rollins’ oldest son, Hunter, has taken a special interest in his service to RMHC of Richmond. As he describes, “I have become part of this family at the house with not only the staff, but with the families that walk in and out of the house.”

Recently, while making a meal at the house, Hunter noticed a shortage of paper towels and other household supplies. Hunter was inspired to do a wish-list drive for items in the house that help make families feel more comfortable during their stay.

We are grateful that Hunter is part of our RMHC family and has become a leader in engaging community support. Thank you Hunter and the entire Rollins family!

We were honored to be the beneficiaries of Sigma Phi Epsilon's Hoops for the House fundraiser at University of Richmond. The fundraiser started after several brothers bonded over their family's personal experiences of staying at a Ronald McDonald House. The tournament included thirty-four 3-on-3 teams and an appearance by the men's Varsity basketball team.
In less than three weeks, the fraternity recruited more than 100 participants to play basketball in the tournament and raised over $18,000.00 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond. We are so grateful for their generosity!
