Mission Accomplished

For months we had been dreaming of bringing our newborn baby home from the hospital.  But sadly, our son, Oscar, couldn't leave intensive care. Fluid filled his lungs during delivery. He had to receive antibiotics and recover in the hospital for the next ten days.
Thanks to friends like you, we were never far from our newborn. You gave us a loving place to stay close to baby Oscar. Even though we only live 40 miles away, being close by the hospital was a must for us. The staff and volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond provided a safe, comfortable place to sleep, hot meals, and so much more. They even offered transportation to and from the hospital so that we could be with Oscar as much as possible. Our two older sons, Oliver and Otto, felt right at home in the playroom and took advantage of the toys and lounge areas.
Finally Oscar was well enough to go home. Today, he's a healthy and very happy little boy. But we will never forget the gift you gave our family - the time we got to spend near Oscar during his first frightening days. Thank you for giving worried families a place to heal together. Your support of RMHC is truly the gift of togetherness for families like ours. (photography by Melissa Brugh.)

The Giles Family

Superheroes in Action

For the 5th year in a row, Mason's Toy Box hosted a local holiday toy drive in memory of Mason Clark Thomas.  The group came to the Ronald McDonald House to gift our families with the toys that had been collected as a part of the drive. Nine-year-old Tyler was thrilled to receive a robot that was on his Christmas list. Five-year-old Owen was excited to open a talking Elmo. Seven-year-old Katie donned a new pair of glitter high-top sneakers and her little sister Ellie was grinning ear to ear about her new pillow pet. Parents who were staying at the house to support their hospitalized children came home to find a large box with their child’s name on it filled with toys, clothing items, and even much-needed items like a crib and car seat. Thank you to Mason’s Toy Box for making the holidays extra joyful at Richmond's Ronald McDonald House! (photography by Diane Travis.)

Community Spotlight

We were given an amazing gift this holiday season by JES Foundation Repair! Their team donated more than $10,000 worth of labor and materials to waterproof the basement of our Ronald McDonald House. “The last thing the Ronald McDonald House should be worried about is repairs, especially during the holidays. This organization hosts local children who are battling major health challenges. We are touched by their mission and want to extend the same level of compassion and kindness they offer families every day,” said Nick Feaster, sales manager of JES’ Chester office. Ten JES employees volunteered on a Saturday to complete the waterproofing project. This project was essential as our basement is home to important spaces such as our play room, laundry room, offices, and pantry storage. Thank you to our friends at JES!
