Mission Accomplished
Clairiesa Pierre and her son Micah came to the Ronald McDonald House all the way from the tropical island of St. Vincent. In school, Micah, age six, was having difficulty with his vision. After visiting their doctor it was discovered that Micah had cataracts, and would require extensive care and surgery to correct his vision.

Clairiesa could not find the care required to correct Micah’s vision in St. Vincent, an island in the Caribbean over 1900 miles away from Richmond, Virginia. Fortunately, Clairiesa was able to find hope through the World Pediatric Project, an organization based in Richmond whose mission is to link worldwide pediatric medical resources to heal critically ill children in developing countries. They were connected to the Virginia Eye Institute and because Micah would need to stay for a two-week period, the World Pediatric Project arranged for the family to stay at the Ronald McDonald House.

Superheroes in Action

This month, we would like to highlight Kappa Epsilon, a professional pharmacy fraternity from Virginia Commonwealth University! VP of Service, Chelsea Sprouse, described volunteering at RMHC as knowing that they can help families feel at home by providing families with a nice, warm meal ready for them when they arrive home for the hospital. Chelsea's favorite moments at RMHC are when she gets to spend time and play with the kids at the House. For this group volunteering is a stress relieving activity and the warm atmosphere, keeps them coming back. Thank you for sharing your time with us!

Community Spotlight
Comfort is a word long associated with the La-Z-Boy brand, and what can be more important than comforting a family in their time of need?  That’s why La-Z-Boy became the official furniture provider of Ronald McDonald House Charities, donating four new pieces of furniture to every house, every year. Together with RMHC, La-Z-Boy ensures that families have a comfortable "home away from home" while their children receive much needed medical care.
In February, La-Z-Boy of Short Pump helped redecorate several first floor living spaces at Richmond's Ronald McDonald House. They're going a step further to raise extra funds for RMHC. The store is offering a President's Day promotion and, when a customer makes a $20 donation to RMHC in store, they will receive 5% off of their purchase. To take advantage of this opportunity, visit the store at 11541 West Broad Street or give them a call to meet with a designer (804) 360-5272. Promotion runs February 21 - 23, 2017.
