Mission Accomplished
Finding a home miles away from their own

Taliyah and her mom, Morine, came to the Ronald McDonald House this summer from St. Vincent, an island in the Caribbean over 1900 miles away from Richmond, Virginia. As an infant, Taliyah’s eyesight began deteriorating. Morine noticed early on that her daughter would continuously hold objects close to her face in an attempt to see them clearly. When she noticed this pattern, she took her to the doctor. It turned out this was a serious issue and the small island did not have the medical expertise to help Taliyah.

When Paige Kobza was thinking about where she wanted to complete her Girl Scouts Gold Award, an award that challenges senior girl scouts to change the world, the Ronald McDonald House was the first thought in her mind. Almost ten years ago, when Paige’s brother had to have open heart surgery, her family learned about the Ronald McDonald House in Michigan and have been collecting pop tops and volunteering ever since.

Paige did art projects with children at the house, created personalized thank you cards, and spread the mission of RMHC to other Girl Scout Troops, encouraging them to hold wish list drives and to volunteer.
