Activity: Placing Your School On A Map
Instructions
Presentation of Learning Requirements:
Create a 10 - 30 minute presentation of your proposed school design. Use visual aids of choice (a spreadsheet, website creation, brochure, puppet show, etc.) to show the key aspects of your school design narrative. You may record yourself verbally presenting your school with accompanying visuals,or through a video you can post on a video hosting service (we originally suggested YouTube).
At the very least, the presentation must touch on the following elements of your school design narrative:
- Purpose
- Pedagogy
- Student Mix
- Faculty
- Hiring Process
- Neighborhood
You may record yourself through a camera and make a separate slideshow presentation of your narrative. Think of different slideshow programs and websites and consider how in depth you want your slideshow to be. Record yourself giving the slideshow before uploading it to a video hosting service (we originally suggested YouTube).
Alternative methods:
- Make a website that has your entire final project completed to be interactive.
- Make a comic, animation, or puppet show explaining your narrative
- Be creative! What can you do that would make an effective and entertaining POL?
Feedback (Optional)
Try showing your POL to your peers/colleagues. What thoughts do they have? Do they believe your school will be successful? Does it touch on all of the elements of school design mentioned above? What could be improved about your presentation?
