We have received an advocacy update from the American Lung Association that funding for tobacco prevention and control programs is at risk in Pennsylvania. The American Lung Association has learned that there are discussions in the House of Representatives to reduce or eliminate funding specifically for these tobacco programs. This email serves as a call to action to advocate for funding these programs.
We are asking that all service providers, coalition members, and community partners to call ONLY the Pennsylvania House of Representatives by close of business TODAY at their Capitol Offices.
All advocates who receive funding for these programs should be contacting the House members whose districts they provide tobacco control services as well as the one Representative they are a constituent of.
It is vitally important that advocates are highlighting local programming funded by these monies in their respective districts.
Please note that when advocates are calling they need to be asking specifically if the member supports funding the programs. In the past we have had legislators who support these programs but do NOT support funding them, unfortunately there is a difference.
When calling your House Members please use the following script:
My name is [INSERT NAME] and I’m a constituent calling from [INSERT NAME OF YOUR HOMETOWN] OR My name is [INSERT NAME] and I work for [INSERT NAME OF YOUR WORKPLACE] providing [INSERT WHAT SERVICES YOU PROVIDE] to Representative [INSERT NAME] District
I’m calling Representative [INSERT NAME] to ask [HIM/HER] to support allocating state funding with the investment of $16.975 million for FY20 to comprehensive tobacco prevention and control programs
Tobacco prevention and control programs are working in your district. [INSERT A BRIEF SUCCESS STORY OF A TOBACCO CONTROL PROGRAM IN THE LEGISLATOR’S DISTRICT OR ALTERNATIVELY, THE TOLL YOU HAVE SEEN THAT TOBACCO HAS TAKEN IN THEIR DISTRICT]

After each visit please submit a legislative tracking form using this link: http://bit.ly/PACTVisit to notify PACT of the feedback, questions and/or concerns posed by the Representatives in your conversation with them.
Thank you in advance for your work to ensure continued MSA funding in Allegheny County. Please let me know right away if you have any questions or concerns.
