Celebrate! I wanted to share this story I read. I felt it was a good connect to our sermon series. Not only did God create us different, but as individuals we also do thing differently.

Be a Blessing,
Pastor Scott

“The bag of snack chips was small, but it taught an American missionary a big lesson. Working one evening in the Dominican Republic, she arrived at a church meeting and opened her chips when a woman she hardly knew reached and grabbed a few from the bag. Others helped themselves, too.

How rude, the missionary thought. Then she realized a humbling lesson. She didn’t yet understand the culture where she’d agreed to serve. Rather than emphasizing individualism, as in the United States, she learned that life in the Dominican Republic is lived in community. Sharing one’s food and goods is how people relate to each other. Her way wasn’t better, just different. She confessed, “It was very humbling to discover these things about me.” As she began to recognize her own biases, she also learned that humbly sharing with others helped her serve them better.

Peter taught this lesson to church leaders: treat others with humility. He counseled the elders to resist “lording it over those entrusted to you” (1 Peter 5:3). And those younger? “Submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility” (v. 5). As he declared: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Therefore, “humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time” (v. 6). May He help us humbly live before Him and others today.”

Worship Through Giving

We are thankful for your faithful support during these challenging times. Your generous giving has been vital in maintaining our ability to cover expenses and continue our church ministries. You may continue giving in-person at the indoor worship service, by sending your offering check directly to the church, or by using the church online giving feature found in the footer of the church website. It is easy, secure, and appreciated. --- Thank You

If so inspired, you may give online now, by clicking here.

The DeBows Food Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month, 6‌-8pm. The next Food Pantry distribution is M‌onday, Ju‌ly 25.

DeBows uses an "Appointment Only" system to distribute the food. People can make an appointment by calling 848-373-8844.

Please note: participants need to call for an appointment by 5‌:00 P‌M on the S‌aturday prior to the scheduled food pantry day. This gives the Food Pantry volunteers time to prepare the food for distribution. "Thank You" for your cooperation.

DeBows in Mission
UMCOR Hygiene Kits

DeBows is supporting UMCOR during July & August via their Hygiene Kit program. While Hygiene Kits for UMCOR is a year-round mission activity for our church, we are focusing on Ju‌ly & August because hurricane season is fast approaching. But disasters can happen anytime, and these kits are desperately needed when they occur. Please continue to collect the items needed to make up the kits. A box for completed kits and instructions on how to put it all together is outside the Fellowship Hall. Let’s fill that box!

Our UMCOR Hygiene Kit outreach activity helps to meet the ever-increasing demand for relief items. The Hygiene Kits we put together are forwarded to UMCOR for deployment to those most in need. This has been very successful and rewarding ministry in past years.

Along with collecting items to build kits, we will also be accepting monetary donations. If you wish to donate, please mark clearly on your check or envelope that it is for UMCOR. Each Hygiene Kit is valued at $12, but any and all donations will be greatly appreciated and will be sent to UMCOR along with the hygiene kits.

Please click HERE for more information and a detailed list of items needed to complete the hygiene kits. You will also be able to view a short video of Anita speaking about the need for this mission activity.
Music Ministry

DeBows UMC is blessed with talented people who love to praise God. We pray for each other and give back to the Lord the blessings we’ve received. We welcome newcomers to join our music ministry and share and grow their talent for God’s glory. Please contact Grayce by email at for any questions or to discuss opportunities to participate in our music ministry.

Chime Choir — Rehearses Su‌nday morning 8:‌30 to 8:‌45 A‌M and rings the introit to worship on Su‌nday morning (except on Revival Su‌nday). New members are always welcome. Ability to sight read music and prior experience not necessary. Ability to be present and have fun very important!

Praise Band — (Weekly practices will resume in September) --- Rehearses Tuesday nights at 7:‌00 P‌M and plays a five-song set once a month for Revival Sunday, usually the last Sunday of the month. Check email and church calendar for exceptions. All instruments welcome.

* More information about the DeBows music ministry can be viewed here. Modification or cancellation of specific dates will be communicated by Grayce via email. Please check email for any cancellations before coming out.
