M‌onday, M‌ay 30
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Another horrific massacre: another group of lives forever linked by blood and death.

How long O Lord?
"Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, and asked for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem." ~ Acts 9:1-2
In the book of Acts, followers of our Lord Jesus were at times called followers of "The Way".  --- The Way of Jesus.
This morning, I, like all of you are grieved by the news of yet another horrible, senseless, act of incredible violence - this time primarily against our children. How is it with your soul, this morning - hearing this news? Are you angry? Grieved, saddened, outraged... Numb?
We should pray to God. We can give all we are wrestling with to God - who hears our prayers. We should respond, support, and show love in any way that we are called by God to respond to this.
And we are called to be followers of The Way.  --- The Way of Jesus.
How is it with your soul?  If you are angry, who are you angry with - and pray for God to help you discern if your anger lines up with The Way of Jesus. Are you grieved, saddened, outraged or numb? Let's pray for our Lord to fill us with His Holy Spirit, so that all that we are is in line with The Way of Jesus.
How is the world going to change?
Through God's grace and mercy, and our willingness to be followers (in surrendering every aspect of our lives) to The Way of our Lord Jesus, we are called to participate in this movement of God. We are called to share the Gospel of Jesus to this hurting world so that lives can be changed.
Jesus' Way.  Not ours.  Always.
Praying for all the victims....

Worship Through Giving

We are thankful for your faithful support during these challenging times. Your generous giving has been vital in maintaining our ability to cover expenses and continue our church ministries. You may continue giving in-person at the indoor worship service, by sending your offering check directly to the church, or by using the church online giving feature found in the footer of the church website. It is easy, secure, and appreciated. --- Thank You

If so inspired, you may give online now, by clicking here.

Membership Class
Pastor Denise will be conducting a Membership class via Zoom on Tues‌day, M‌ay 31 from 6‌:30 to 8‌:‌00 P‌M. If you are interested in becoming a member of DeBows, please let Pastor Denise know. She will provide the Zoom link prior to the class.
Prayer Ministry
Please keep the following people in your prayers ...
  • The nineteen children and two teachers who were killed in a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Prayers also for all those impacted by this horrific act.
  • Brian Ross, of the Libby Prison Minstrel band, collapsed at his job last week and was rushed to the hospital and put into ICU and placed in a medical induced coma and life support. This is a complete mystery and evaluation continues. Please keep Brian and his wife Brigette in your prayers.
  • Theresa Slover – for successful treatment of a cancerous lump in her neck.
  • Joseph (Barbara’s brother) - he is ill and in need of a lung transplant.
  • Prayers for Ukraine and for peace and for the war with Russia to cease.
  • Sue Esposito (Joy’s friend) - is in hospice and not expected to live long.
  • Continued prayer for home-bound church members: Rudy Iannacone; Ann Giarratano; Paul Bartek; Dottie Weeks
~ NOTE ~

Food Pantry Ministry
The DeBows Food Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month, 6‌-8pm. The next Food Pantry distribution is M‌onday, Ju‌ne 13.

DeBows uses an "Appointment Only" system to distribute the food. People can make an appointment by calling 848-373-8844.

Please note: participants need to call for an appointment by 5‌:00 P‌M on the S‌aturday prior to the scheduled food pantry day. This gives the Food Pantry volunteers time to prepare the food for distribution. "Thank You" for your cooperation.

Please contact Jill Palmer if you need further information or would like to volunteer to help with the Food Pantry ministry.
June Mission Activity
Our Mission Purpose for the month of J‌une is collecting diapers for The Maker's Place.
The Maker’s Place is a diaper bank sponsored by GNJUMC. The Maker’s Place was launched in July 2018 with a broad vision. Originally intended to collect 10,000 diapers for a community birthday party for one year-olds, The Maker’s Place collected 100,000 diapers during their first collection drive. With so many diapers left over, they launched what is now their flagship initiative: “Diaper Depot,” a diaper distribution program that gives away thousands of free diapers each month to families who struggle to provide enough diapers for their little ones.
The Maker’s Place continues to collect and distribute diapers and to become a resource center that connects neighbors with neighbors in diverse and inclusive communities, by responding to the gifts and aspirations of people living in poverty. One in three families are in need of diapers for their babies.
Any brand & size will be accepted. And anyone can give to our collection. If a family member, a friend or a neighbor wishes to join us in this mission, they are most welcomed.
You can bring diapers to the church starting now and we will continue to collect them through Su‌nday, J‌une 26. Please place them on the floor in the sanctuary, left of the communion rail. We thank you in advance for all you do to further God's work.
Church Flea Market
DeBows will host a Flea Market on Sat‌urday, J‌une 25 from 8 A‌M to 2 P‌M. Table space (no table) for vendors is $10. Please contact Sue Hayward at to reserve a space or for more information.

Watch for more details in the near future.

New Pastor Appointment
Effective J‌uly 1, 2‌022, Rev. Scott Clifton has been appointed to be the pastor of DeBows UMC, in addition to his current church, Groveville UMC.

As a lifelong United Methodist, Scott grew up serving in the church. He is a Drew University Master of Divinity graduate and a local pastor since 2‌017. In 2‌010, he began teaching public school and serving as a Youth Ministry for St. Andrew UMC and from there felt God was calling him to full time ministry.  Scott has a servant heart and believes that when we let God’s love work through us, we can then share that love with others. Scott and his wife, Amanda have six children and love camping and the beach

Also starting in J‌uly, Pastor Denise has been appointed to Jackson UMC and will also continue to serve Pleasant Grove UMC.

We wish both Pastor Denise & Pastor Scott all the best as they begin the transition process.
RaiseRight Gift Cards

NOTE: ShopWithScrip has been rebranded as RaiseRight. The concept and ordering process is exactly the same.

We will be placing a RaiseRight Gift Card order on J‌une 6. All orders must be given to Sue Hayward by S‌unday, J‌une 5. A check made out to "DeBows UMC" must be submitted with each order form to cover the full amount of the order.

A complete list of available gift cards & order forms are located in the church narthex or can be accessed online via the below links. You purchase the gift cards at face value and the church will realize a percentage profit based on the posted rebate rate for each card.

Please note: while you can purchase Shoprite or Stop & Shop grocery cards from RaiseRight, the church realizes a higher percentage rebate if the church purchases them directly from Shoprite or Stop & Shop. See Sue if you want to purchase Shoprite or Stop & Shop cards.
