Signs of Early J‌une
Laurel in Bloom
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 1:3-6

Over the past few weeks, it has been difficult to think of this moment that is rapidly approaching.  It has been such a joy and an honor to serve this wonderful church. It has been such a wonderful four years, and I am deeply grateful for every one of you.

I will always be grateful for the kindness and gracious way you had welcomed me here at DeBows UMC. Your love for God, your church, and this community you serve shines in everything that you do. You were gracious and accommodating to me in every way. In no time at all I felt like I belonged to this community. What a gift that was. Not only did you welcome me, you changed your worship time to accommodate my S‌unday morning schedule, and embraced the members of the other church I served by attending their special events and doing Bible study together.

I will always be grateful for the ways that each of you brought the best you had to bless the church. Your love of music and talents, your gifts of technology, your ability to repair and care for the building, your gifts of stewardship, I could go on and on. Your love for the community and the ways you’ve served those in need through the food pantry and mission will always inspire me.

I am mostly grateful for the wonderful friendships I've made here with all of you. Your love and kindness to me has made such an impact on my life. I will never forget my time here and I will always be so grateful for each of you!

I am confident that God is doing great works here at DeBows UMC, and He will continue to do so during this transition. What a blessing you will continue to be to Pastor Scott Clifton and his family.

You will always be in all of my prayers, and in my heart forever.

God bless each of you!  May God continue to guide you and fill you with His presence in everything.

With much love,
Pastor Denise

Worship Through Giving

We are thankful for your faithful support during these challenging times. Your generous giving has been vital in maintaining our ability to cover expenses and continue our church ministries. You may continue giving in-person at the indoor worship service, by sending your offering check directly to the church, or by using the church online giving feature found in the footer of the church website. It is easy, secure, and appreciated. --- Thank You

If so inspired, you may give online now, by clicking here.

Prayer Ministry
Please keep the following people in your prayers ...

  • Family of Pauline (Teresa McGayhey's mother) - at her passing. Please keep Teresa and the entire family in your prayers during this very difficult time. Please note, there will be a viewing at Carmona Bolen, Toms River, on Fr‌iday Ju‌ne 10 at 10a‌m, followed by a service at 11 a‌m. Interment will be at OC Memorial Park at 12p‌m.
  • Georgina & Ed Bavais (close friends of Guy & Christine Raymond) - Georgina’s father, George, passed away this week after being quite ill. Georgina is taking it hard. Please pray for strength and peace for her and the family.
  • Christine Raymond - she is experiencing significant back pain and is currently being treated by a chiropractor. Please pray for some relief.
  • Pastor Scott Clifton – recovering from lumbar fusion surgery.
  • Louise Dutcher (Anita’s son-in-law's aunt) – is in the hospital recovering from a fall.
  • Family of Billie Gattis (dear friend of Anita) at her passing.
  • Brian Ross, of the Libby Prison Minstrel band, after collapsing at his job and being placed in a medical induced coma, he is now off the respirator and breathing on his own, responding to talk, opening his eyes, moving his feet, and squeezing his wife's hand. Still no word on what caused him to collapse.
  • Theresa Slover – for successful treatment of a cancerous lump in her neck.
  • Joseph (Barbara’s brother) -  he is ill and in need of a lung transplant.
  • Prayers for Ukraine and for peace and for the war with Russia to cease.
  • Sue Esposito (Joy’s friend) - is in hospice and not expected to live long.
  • Continued prayer for home-bound church members: Rudy Iannacone; Ann Giarratano; Paul Bartek; Dottie Weeks
~ NOTE ~
Please let Pastor Denise know of any updates to this prayer list. Additions, removals, or status updates. Prayer requests will roll off the list after 4 weeks unless updated or renewed. All prayer requests go directly to the pastor.
Food Pantry Ministry
The DeBows Food Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month, 6‌-8pm. The next Food Pantry distribution is M‌onday, Ju‌ne 13.

DeBows uses an "Appointment Only" system to distribute the food. People can make an appointment by calling 848-373-8844.

Please note: participants need to call for an appointment by 5‌:00 P‌M on the S‌aturday prior to the scheduled food pantry day. This gives the Food Pantry volunteers time to prepare the food for distribution. "Thank You" for your cooperation.

Please contact Jill Palmer if you need further information or would like to volunteer to help with the Food Pantry ministry.
June Mission Activity
Our Mission Purpose for the month of J‌une is collecting diapers for The Maker's Place.

The Maker’s Place is a diaper bank sponsored by GNJUMC. The Maker’s Place was launched in July 2018 with a broad vision. Originally intended to collect 10,000 diapers for a community birthday party for one year-olds, The Maker’s Place collected 100,000 diapers during their first collection drive. With so many diapers left over, they launched what is now their flagship initiative: “Diaper Depot,” a diaper distribution program that gives away thousands of free diapers each month to families who struggle to provide enough diapers for their little ones.

The Maker’s Place continues to collect and distribute diapers and to become a resource center that connects neighbors with neighbors in diverse and inclusive communities, by responding to the gifts and aspirations of people living in poverty. One in three families are in need of diapers for their babies.

Any brand & size will be accepted. And anyone can give to our collection. If a family member, a friend or a neighbor wishes to join us in this mission, they are most welcomed.

You can bring diapers to the church and we will continue to collect them through Su‌nday, J‌une 26. Please place them on the floor in the sanctuary, left of the communion rail. We thank you in advance for all you do to further God's work.
Church Flea Market
DeBows will host a Flea Market on Sat‌urday, J‌une 25 from 8 A‌M to 2 P‌M. Table space (no table) for vendors is $10. Please contact Sue Hayward at jerseysue@outlook.com to reserve a space or for more information.

Volunteers are needed for setup (sta‌rting at 7a‌m) and breakdown at 2p‌m. Volunteers will also be needed to man the church tables during the flea market. Please contact Sue if you are available to help.

New Pastor Appointment
Effective J‌uly 1, 2‌022, Rev. Scott Clifton has been appointed to be the pastor of DeBows UMC, in addition to his current church, Groveville UMC.

As a lifelong United Methodist, Scott grew up serving in the church. He is a Drew University Master of Divinity graduate and a local pastor since 2‌017. In 2‌010, he began teaching public school and serving as a Youth Ministry for St. Andrew UMC and from there felt God was calling him to full time ministry.  Scott has a servant heart and believes that when we let God’s love work through us, we can then share that love with others. Scott and his wife, Amanda have six children and love camping and the beach

Also starting in J‌uly, Pastor Denise has been appointed to Jackson UMC and will also continue to serve Pleasant Grove UMC.

We wish both Pastor Denise & Pastor Scott all the best as they begin the transition process.

IMPORTANT TRANSITION POLICY

As of the effective date of a new appointment (Ju‌ly 1), a pastor shall immediately cease all pastoral activity at the previous church, including returning to officiate at baptisms, weddings, funerals, or do pastoral counseling or pastoral visitation in that parish. This will apply to Pastor Denise and Pastor Scott will assume those responsibilities as of Ju‌ly 1.
