David writes in Psalm 121:2, “My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
When I am struggling, I know that I need to do something different than I am doing. I am reminded of the saying, “If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting.” I do not want to be stuck with the same results. I want God to show me something new. This Psalm reminds me that I know exactly where to get different results from. By including God in my life, I can get the help I need.

Do not continue to struggle without God even if you think your challenge or struggle is too big. Go to God. Your help comes from the Lord.

We often pray like this:  “Dear God, I have a big problem.” Remember, no problem is too big for God. You tell that problem, “I have a BIG God!”
Prayer: Thank you, God, for loving me even when I am struggling. I know that I will go through challenges but I am thankful that You are where I will get my help from. Amen.

Be a Blessing,
Pastor Scott

Worship Through Giving

We are thankful for your faithful support during these challenging times. Your generous giving has been vital in maintaining our ability to cover expenses and continue our church ministries. You may continue giving in-person at the indoor worship service, by sending your offering check directly to the church, or by using the church online giving feature found in the footer of the church website. It is easy, secure, and appreciated. --- Thank You

If so inspired, you may give online now, by clicking here.

Prayer Ministry
Please keep the following people in your prayers ...
  • Theresa Slover – for successful treatment of cancer in her neck & recovery from COVID.
  • Pastor Betty Gibbons - she is in the hospital with a bowel obstruction and also has COVID without symptoms. Prayers for her comfort and healing. Pray also for the doctors that are caring for her.
  • Sasha Ryder (friend of Marty) - She is about 25 years old and suddenly lost most strength and movement in her right arm. Doctors are trying to diagnose the issue.
  • Steven Gray – for medical issues

  • Continued prayer for home-bound church members: Rudy Iannacone; Paul Bartek; Dottie Weeks

Food Pantry Ministry
The DeBows Food Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Mon‌day each month, 6‌-8pm. The next Food Pantry distribution is M‌onday, Aug‌ust 22.

DeBows uses an "Appointment Only" system to distribute the food. People can make an appointment by calling 848-373-8844.

Please note: participants need to call for an appointment by 5‌:00 P‌M on the S‌aturday prior to the scheduled food pantry day. This gives the Food Pantry volunteers time to prepare the food for distribution. "Thank You" for your cooperation.

Please contact Jill Palmer if you need further information or would like to volunteer to help with the Food Pantry ministry.
DeBows in Mission
UMCOR Hygiene Kits

DeBows is supporting UMCOR during through August via their Hygiene Kit program. While Hygiene Kits for UMCOR is a year-round mission activity for our church, we are focusing on August because of the current emergency situations due to the wild fires in California, flooding in Kentucky, and the approaching hurricane season. Kits are disparately needed for those impacted by these events. Please continue to collect the items needed to make up the kits. A box for completed kits and instructions on how to put it all together is outside the Fellowship Hall. Let’s fill that box!

Hints for collecting items:
  • Review the list of items needed and when out doing your normal shopping, pickup some extra of the items needed. Remember, the Dollar Store is a good source for many of the items.
  • Bring the items to the church and once we have a batch of the items needed, we will have a “Kit Party” and complete the kits.

The Hygiene Kits we put together are forwarded to UMCOR for deployment to those most in need. This has been very successful and rewarding ministry in past years.

Along with collecting items to build kits, we will also be accepting monetary donations. If you wish to donate, please mark clearly on your check or envelope that it is for UMCOR. Each Hygiene Kit is valued at $12, but any and all donations will be greatly appreciated and will be sent to UMCOR along with the hygiene kits.

Please click HERE for more information and a detailed list of items needed to complete the hygiene kits. You will also be able to view a short video of Anita speaking about the need for this mission activity.
Music Ministry

DeBows UMC is blessed with talented people who love to praise God. We pray for each other and give back to the Lord the blessings we’ve received. We welcome newcomers to join our music ministry and share and grow their talent for God’s glory. Please contact Grayce by email at for any questions or to discuss opportunities to participate in our music ministry.

Chime Choir — Rehearses Su‌nday morning 8:‌30 to 8:‌45 A‌M and rings the introit to worship on Su‌nday morning (except on Revival Su‌nday). New members are always welcome. Ability to sight read music and prior experience not necessary. Ability to be present and have fun very important!

Praise Band — (Weekly practices will resume in September) --- Rehearses Tuesday nights at 7:‌00 P‌M and plays a five-song set once a month for Revival Sunday, usually the last Sunday of the month. Check email and church calendar for exceptions. All instruments welcome.

* More information about the DeBows music ministry can be viewed here. Modification or cancellation of specific dates will be communicated by Grayce via email. Please check email for any cancellations before coming out.
