"I Resolve"

The origins of the New Year Resolution date back to the Babylonians, some 4,000 years ago.  At the beginning of the New Year, they promised to pay their debts and return borrowed property. Perhaps that should be "BORROWED" in quotes.

Today’s resolutions are as interesting as the people who make them.  And within the Autism Community, you will find some that speak to the relationship a parent has to their child, and others that address personal aspirations.

How many of the following resolutions resonate with you?

I will not force you to look me in the eye.

I will go out to a school social event this year.

How many of the following resolutions resonate with you?

I will not talk about you in the third person while you are in earshot.

I will look after myself more and take time without guilt.

I will cultivate an interest in your interests because connecting with you brings us closer.

I will find more time spend with my spouse

I resolve to stop trying to persuade people to listen to my point of view when they are incapable of understanding it.

I will have a "can do" attitude when it comes to your challenges.

I will celebrate each victory, no matter how small.

I will not apologize for or justify your behaviour to strangers, or anyone else for that matter.

I resolve to make connections this year.

I will support companies and charities that support autism awareness and research.

I will share my story.
